Quick info
About The Sun Inn
The Sun Inn is a pub in Morpeth on High Church, with a restaurant side serving starters, mains and desserts. The menu leans on hearty pub cooking, including steak mince and dumplings, and the kitchen makes its own sticky toffee pudding to finish. Sunday lunch is served as a roast, with the vegetables coming separately. Dogs are welcome at Sunday lunch tables, so owners can bring them along to the meal. A guest ale is on offer at the bar.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often come for the generous, hearty pub food, with the Sunday roast drawing the most mentions, including one vegetarian who calls it among the best Sunday lunches they have had and meat eaters who were also happy with enormous portions. Close behind, reviewers praise the homemade sticky toffee pudding, the steak pie, and the steak mince and dumplings, and several describe the beer garden as a favourite spot for lunch. Staff are called friendly and attentive by several. Service speed is the recurring complaint, with a few calling it slow, and one reviewer says the slow service and feeling unwelcome outweighed the food. That same reviewer found the biscoff cheesecake powdery and not fully set and had to go find someone for missing stuffing. Another reviewer describes being told food could not be eaten in the beer garden and leaving for somewhere else. One says a glass came back dirty twice, and another found the extra chips greasy and left them.

“Went here for the first time since its been taken over... was a beautiful day to sit in the beer garden. We wanted food but was told we were not allowed to eat outside. The beer garden was busy and the majority wanted to eat outside. So went somewhere else”

“An excellent meal. Homemade sticky toffee pudding the best I've ever had. The menu is extensive and full of hearty dishes such as cod and chips, Cumberland sausages and many more. I had savoury steak mince and dumplings from the restaurant week menu. I always have a delicious meal at the Sun Inn and the staff and service are excellent.”

“Sunday dinner was lovely, we had Sunday roast. Was missing stuffing had to go find somebody. Quickly came back with a bowl of stuffing, service is very slow but worth it for the food edit: the rubbish service is not worth it for the food. Never felt so unwelcome. The so called biscoff cheesecake was vile tasted powdery and was not fully set. I certainly wont be back in a hurry”

“Came upon this establishment purely by looking through Google Maps. We’re staying up in Cornhill Upon Tweed so this isn’t out of our way. The food was absolutely top notch, so tasty! The total bill for the two of us came to £85 including drinks. Guest ale really cheap here as well. I actually had three courses which is something I don’t normally do. Service was a little slow but staff very friendly. Real nice community minded pub. If we’re holidaying up this way again we’ll be sure to call in. Highly recommended.”
