Customer Review Summary

Scallops are the starter reviewers mention most, called good by two diners, though a third found the portion small. Duck breast comes up just as often and splits opinion: two found it a little overcooked, with a cherry sauce that seemed to have no cherry in it, while another said it was cooked perfectly. Close behind is the staff, described as attentive and friendly, including with a large birthday party. Other dishes singled out include the lobster, the creme brûlée, the salmon, a goats cheese tart and a crown of roast turkey. The kitchen draws repeated complaints about stock and execution. Mussels and smoked mackerel were unavailable, the peppercorn sauce ran out, triple cooked chips arrived undercooked, and a side of seasonal vegetables was too small for one portion. Two reviewers called the food only average for the money. One diner waited so long for mains that they had to chase them, then found both fish dishes overcooked. The staff offered to make the starter free, but the adjusted bill showed little real difference.

“First time visit. Booked 5 days earlier for 7.30pm. Arrived a few minutes early and ordered. Main course served at 9.00pm!!! Very poor as we had to chase. Food mixed. Starter of scallops was good. However both main course fish were overcooked, we ate as starving by 9.00pm! The waiting team attempted to adjust the bill to make the starter "free" as an apology, unfortunately the adds and minuses on the bill meant their was little actual difference. This is a restaurant that at best is disorganised and leaderless and would suggest you avoid it, we will not be returning.”

“Starters were so tasty but scallops portion was small. Prawns were so flavoursome. Duck main was cooked perfectly. Steak was delicious except they ran out of peppercorn sauce which was a little let down as the cheese sauce alternative was not cheesy, only creamy.”

“We just celebrated our anniversary in Rocksalt. All of the dishes were excellent. I was so happy I tried the lobster, it was amazing and the creme brûlée was the exact perfect consistency and flavour. Thank you all for making our time so special.”

“Celebrated a family member's birthday at Rocksalt over the weekend and was throughly impressed by the quality of both food and service. Even though we were a large party, the staff were very attentive and made sure each member of our group was accommodated for. Everyone was very pleased with the menu also. Would definately recommend:)”

“Couldn’t fault it. Ate here today and had the 3 course lunch deal for £28. All the food arrived quickly despite being obviously all homemade and delicious. However the greatest thing about our trip was our host / waitress, didn’t catch her name. She was friendly, helpful and attentive without ever being irritating or over the top. She was a real gem. Recommended!”
