About Mercado Lounge
Mercado Lounge is an eclectic restaurant in Market Harborough, based at Edinburgh House and serving food and drinks from morning until night. Board games sit alongside toys for children and treats for dogs, and dogs are allowed in the dining area. The kitchen keeps separate vegan and gluten-free menus, and the vegan choices include a Panang vegan curry and a vegan English breakfast. Brunch and big breakfasts fill the earlier hours, with cocktails in the evening. The large interior has vintage-style decor and wide window panels, with tables and benches alongside soft seating. Orders go in at the counter or on a phone app, and the restaurant takes walk-ins. Churros come at the end of the meal.

Customer Review Summary
Breakfast and brunch draw the most praise, from big breakfasts and a vegan English breakfast to brunch options alongside plenty to keep children occupied. Churros come close behind, called tasty by one reviewer and just the best by another. Several also mention friendly staff, a varied menu with vegan, gluten free and children's options, and being able to bring a dog. Noodles and a vegan cheese burger get passing approval. Complaints centre on cost, crowding and some misses in the kitchen. Reviewers call the prices high, citing a tiny cup of fries, and one lunch visitor found the tables close together, the room noisy and at least five dogs nearby. Another found the music loud and the table sticky. One diner describes birria tacos with barely any meat, mostly shop-bought guacamole and chips. Another reports a Panang vegan curry that arrived without its chickpeas, with the replacement chickpeas brought out crunchy.

“9 years ago I gave this lounge a 4 star rating when I ate here with my daughter's. I returned tonight with one of my daughter's and we both agreed this was the worst Lounge meal we have ever had and we have eaten in many of their cafes. We both had a Panang Vegan curry which was supposed to be sweet potato and chick peas, but the chef had forgotton to put the latter in. When I mentioned this to the waitress a guy quickly came to our table with 2 small dishes of chick peas to add to our curries, which we did. However, the chick peas were crunchy, and neither of us have ever had crunchy chick peas in our lives. Very disappointing. How could the chef miss such an important ingredient and how did he make these chick peas crunchy? A third person in our party had a vegan cheese burger and chips and she thought that was OK, otherwise they would not have had a 2 star rating. We normally we like lounge cafes because they are vegan and dog friendly, and normally the food is good quality and reasonably priced, which makes this experience even more disappointing. In response to the owners comment on our experience, I have never known anyone roasting chick peas for a curry, and of course they didn't have enough time in the sauce to soften. The chef left them out of the curry and a small dish of chick peas was brought to our table when we reported this, so we added these to the sauce and ate them straight away, so of course they didn't have time to soften. If we had waited, our curry and rice would have gone cold. The meals should have been replaced or discount offered for them not being as described.”

“I had my parents over from Holland they have eaten here 3 days and really loved the food. I have eaten twice here with my parents food absolute perfect. Price very reasonable for the food. Would recommend 100%”

“Quite honestly the worst Mexican tacos I’ve ever had. Sad to say I’d be surprised if the chef has any cooking experience as I make better at home believe me. Almost inspires me to get my own food truck going. I ordered the birria tacos with beef, which were extremely disappointing. The dish lacked flavour and was almost entirely without filling – there was barely any meat at all. As this is listed under your mains and priced at £15, I expected a full and satisfying meal. Instead, I received a plate that felt like poor value for money, consisting mainly of shop-bought guacamole, tortilla chips, and salsa. What made the experience worse is that none of the staff came over to ask how our meal was or if we needed anything. The lack of engagement or care from the team left a very negative impression overall.”

“In February of 2025 mum had noticed this restaurant due to it’s vintage aesthetic interior that was visible to all across the street with its wide window panels, so we decided to try it out for a late lunch. I ordered a vegan English breakfast and everything I chose to eat from it was delectable. I remember the staff were quick to answer of any orders we gave and the experience here was a positive one. The only negative were the slightly high prices. Overall I recommend !! ╰(*´︶`*)╯♡”

“We popped in for a quick Sunday breakfast with the dog. It’s a very large area inside with a range of different tables and soft seating. You can either order at the counter or on your phone. The menus are extensive including a separate vegan/ vegetarian, a gluten free and a children’s menu. The food was delicious with decent size portions. The 2 parts that let it down was the table being extremely sticky and the music was loud making it challenging to have a conversation over breakfast. The building is accessible by a large ramp”
