About My Karak Chaai

On Wilmslow Rd, My Karak Chaai serves as a halal breakfast and brunch restaurant with karak chai as its central drink, poured alongside a range of parathas that includes aloo, gobhi, nutella and plain versions. The menu also covers lunch service across the day. High chairs at the tables make the room workable for families with young children. The restaurant opens daily, and reservations are recommended for those planning ahead rather than arriving on spec. Given the pairing of tea and paratha at the core of the menu, meals here tend to be paced around that combination rather than a quick turnaround.

Customer Review Summary

The karak chai is the clear draw here, praised repeatedly even by reviewers otherwise let down elsewhere, from an iced karak chai called "beautiful" to diners who say the chai was the only redeeming part of an otherwise disappointing meal. Close behind are the parathas, aloo, gobhi, plain and Nutella versions all get mentioned, generally described as fresh though one reviewer felt the aloo and gobhi versions were layered between sheets of dough rather than properly stuffed. Breakfast dishes like the Daisy breakfast are also singled out as generous and reasonably priced. Desserts are the recurring weak spot: a jam coconut sponge is described as rock hard, a £8 slice billed as tiramisu is called "more cake with cream than tiramisu," and one reviewer reports a Deliveroo milk cake had visibly spoiled by the next day. Service is inconsistent too, with some praising an attentive staff member and others describing 40 to 50 minute waits, a filthy floor, or being refused dine-in an hour before closing. Ordering works by paying at the till and being handed a number before food is brought over once ready.

“Ordered two milk cakes via Deliveroo. Put them in the fridge AS SOON as they arrived. Took them out the next day at lunch and they had fully gone off - the milk had congealed into this horrible thick, goopy texture and one bite of the milk cake showed it was completely sour. Unfortunately I swallowed the bite, hopefully I do not get sick. Was very obvious the milk cake had gone off from being stored in a hot room all day then delivered to us in the evening without refrigeration. This is extremely dangerous. Luckily we realised it had gone off but a child or an elderly person may not be so lucky and can end up very sick. We have ordered milk cakes from multiple other stores in Manchester and kept them in the fridge for 2-3 days and never had this problem. This is the first time. Please review your hygiene and food storage practices before you poison your customers. Colossal waste of money.”

“A very clean, modern place with a nice vibe and an excellent variety of food and drinks. Greeted with a smile and a warm welcome by Mahfuza. She made us feel at home and explained the dishes to us. Her customer service is impeccable. A lovely experience, we'll def return. David”

“Came for the first time from Blackburn with my mum and it was lovely. The iced karak chai was beautiful!! Lovely start to my morning. We also ordered the Lahori Naan Channa and Nutella Paratha. Our server was very attentive and friendly. One slight problem was that there were too many flies inside and sitting ontop of the food. This could be due to the heat, so I understand if this was a one-time occurrence, but I thought it was worth noting.”

“Fantastic breakfast and brilliant service from Awais. We stopped by My Karak Chaai for breakfast and were really impressed. The food was fresh, flavourful, and properly comforting , exactly what you want to start the day. Awais looked after us throughout and made the experience even better with his friendly attitude and great attention to detail. You can tell he genuinely cares about the customers. Highly recommend this place if you want great chai, great food, and great service.”

Everything was beautifully presented, and the entire experience was exceptional. Thank you, Ahiya, for your warm hospitality and excellent service—it made the visit truly enjoyable.”
