Quick info
About Haunt MCR
Gothic decor and a ghost motif define Haunt MCR, a coffee shop at 58 Peter St in Manchester that opens daily. The space is large, with plenty of seating and an upstairs area for those who want to move off the ground floor. Orders go in at the counter or through a QR code, and guests then find their own table. The brunch menu includes eggs benedict, and avocado toast is also available for a lighter plate. Coffee is joined by a choice of teas, including Earl Grey and rooibos. In the evening the coffee shop turns into a bar, and Haunt lager is on the list for those who stay on after dark.

Customer Review Summary
Eggs dishes anchor the food talk, with diners naming eggs benedict, eggs royale and eggs Florentine, though verdicts split. One calls the benedict delicious, another found the eggs royale's bread tough and the hollandaise thin, and a third found perfectly cooked eggs on greasy muffins. Close behind, several praise the coffee as good, smooth and velvety, while one found the cappuccino chemically syrupy and another found the coffee small and bitter. Reviewers also single out Turkish toast, avocado toast, a porchetta and nduja jam stack with rostis, and the Haunt lager. The gothic decor, natural light and ghost logo draw repeated praise, but several describe the space as noisy and busy, with one noting it turns into a bar in the evening. Lower ratings centre on food and value: stale, cold fries, a Caesar salad described as sloppy or missing croutons and tomatoes, and a limited selection. One reviewer ate with a bent fork and waited about twenty minutes for the previous guests' dishes to be cleared, and another found the tea cup not cleaned well.

“The service was fine and it wasn't too loud upstairs, but I was pretty disappointed with the food and drink. The cappuccino had waaay too much of the syrup in it and tasted really chemicaly I had to just down it to quickly so it didn't get wasted and the eggs royale really didn't taste good, the bread was extremely tough, and not sure if it was the sweetness but it didn't go with the rest of the food at all, the hollandaise was really thin. I wasn't able to finish it.”

“It's a fancy cafe in the middle of Manchester, right next to the midland hotel and near the convention centre. It has some interesting gothic decor, which I really liked. The staff were friendly and helped me go through the menu. I got the eggs benedict & a shot of expresso, the eggs benedict was £12, quite expensive but then again it is Manchester city central as central as one can get. It tasted the delicious and the expresso was quite nice as well. Definitely one of my favourite Manchester cafes so far, I think the decor and friendly staff really stick out to me.”

“I was drawn by the unique aesthetic of this place and so wanted to see what it had on offer. I ended up ordering an Eggs Florentine and an Earl Grey tea. The eggs were perfectly cooked, but the muffins tasted quite greasy and cheap. It was lacking flavour overall. The tea cup also wasn’t really cleaned well. Service was average from the first server I had, but the young man with curly hair was really nice!”

“I got a Caesar salad for 10 pounds and a coffee for 4. The Caesar salad was wrong, it literally just had chicken and salad. There should have been croutons and tomatoes at least, so it wasn't worth the price. The coffee was too small and kind of bitter for that price. But the avocado toast was good. The atmosphere is great, the place is nice, but the prices are way too high and the food selection is limited.”

“This coffee shop had a great vibe. Good natural lighting, fluffy pastries, and good variety on the brunch menu. It was one of our favorite cafe breakfast in Manchester so far. We had Turkish toast and a plate of poached eggs, smoked salmon, and bacon with a croissant. Loved it all, including the coffee, which is smooth and velvety.”
