About Lucky Star
Lucky Star is a Chinese takeaway at 15 Lansdowne Rd in Manchester that pairs its Chinese menu with chip-shop food. Salt and pepper chips and curry fried rice chips are listed beside the Chinese dishes, so a single order can cover both. The shop works as a chip shop with a counter for ordering. It opens in the evenings only, on every day of the week except Tuesday, when it is closed. Orders can also be placed by phone.

Customer Review Summary
Chips dominate the feedback, and most of it is critical. Several reviewers call them stale, dry, or hard as nails, and say they seemed cooked hours or a day earlier, with one suspecting they were put back in the oil. An order of salt and pepper chips was described as barely bite-able. A long-time customer says fresh chips are never available and that they sometimes seem overcooked. Service draws complaints as well: one visitor waited at an empty counter, then learned the chips they wanted were not available shortly before closing, while another calls the basic menu slow. Prices split opinion. Some say they climbed after a late 2023 takeover, and others call them fair given the cost of living. Supporters praise the curry fried rice chips, the authentic Chinese food, the good quantity, and friendly staff, and one says new management improved the food. One regular calls the food decent rather than outstanding, yet had placed several orders in a single week.

“Visited this establishment. Was left waiting for 6 min. No service. No one at the counter. Eventually someone comes out, only to tell me what i wanted, they did not have. You are a chippy, for gods sake. And you dont have chips. And it was an hour before closing time. It felt like the woman did not want my business. Well, i wont be visiting this place again. Poor service, dull atmosphere...”

“This place should not be open, the chips we got yesterday were terrible. They were hard as nails and definitely weren’t fresh, hardly edible. Seemed like the day before chips which is disgusting.”
