About Fortune Place
Fortune Place is a Chinese takeaway at 211 Middleton Rd in Manchester that also works as a chippy. Alongside the Chinese menu, it sells fish and chips and pies, so one order can cover both kinds of food. The Chinese side of the menu runs from salt and pepper ribs to rice and noodle dishes. Opening hours are evenings only, and the takeaway is closed on Tuesdays. It opens on the other six days of the week.

Customer Review Summary
Praise centers on the Chinese food itself, with one reviewer calling the chicken curry lovely and others naming it the best Chinese in the area, worth travelling miles for. A first-time customer describes a delicious order that arrived hot and ahead of the estimated time, and another reviewer recounts a staff member cleaning a friend's bleeding bruise and covering it with a large plaster. Negative reviews are just as prominent, and several tie the decline to a change of ownership. A longtime customer found the usual dishes bland and tasteless, and chips arrived cold in a greasy paper bag. Others describe fish and chips with raw batter and a jelly-like middle, dry salt and pepper ribs, stale prawn crackers, and mixed chow mein with no meat or prawns. Three reviewers report being sick after eating, one after special fried rice and one for four days after the fish. A third says her family had cramps and diarrhoea, and that the owner called her a liar when she phoned.

“I had been out with a friend to pick up some tools and by the time we returned, his normal Chinese takeaway was closed. I drove us to the nearest one we could find, which turned out to be this one. He has a medical condition which results in what appear to be bruises, which sometimes start to bleed. as he exited my car, one erupted and I gave him a tissue to stem the flow. When he got into the Fortune Place, the lady noticed this and asked him what it was. Having been advised she took it upon herself to clean the area and put a large plaster over it. I feel it was an extraordinary thing for her to do and it shows the person she is - a class human being. He rang me when I got home to tell me the food was genuinely top flight and this will be his go to takeaway from now on. They deserve the 5 star accolade. Whilst I did not eat on this occasion, I will return for my own food. I am not easily impressed, but this behaviour in this day and age is sadly quite rare.”

“I've never eaten food which is so disgusting. We ordered fish which was terrible, the batter underneath was raw(the fish fell straight out of the batter), the fish was definitely not COD. The pies look like they have been sat there for a good few days. The following day I was sick for 4 days. Overall a terrible chippy and DO NOT recommend.”
