About The Park

The Park is a Joseph Holt pub in Monton, Manchester, at 142 Monton Rd, serving a range of Holt beers in a tap room that works as a local spot. The building has been extended over the years, and one end of the interior is now a big square room that can be hired for events. Football plays on the TV, darts matches take place, and a pool table and arcade games sit alongside the bar. Food is limited to pasties and crisps, and outside food is not allowed. Door staff check bags on entry.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often praise the Holt beers at this traditional boozer, with one enjoying a pint of Guinness in the tap room while football and a darts match played on the television. Several call the pub large and nicely decorated, with an outdoor area, a pool table, arcade games and plenty of seating, and a few say prices are fair. Some describe the staff as great, with one noting fast service on a Saturday afternoon. One reviewer finds the extended end used for events a bit soulless. The main complaint is rudeness, especially from door staff. One reviewer describes a bouncer demanding a bag be opened with a hostile attitude, and another says the bouncers were rude and refused to fetch a manager. A work group found one barman rude and arrogant while collecting glasses, and another reviewer called the owner rude and arrogant. A parent with a dairy-allergic toddler was told outside food was not allowed, and the only food on offer was stale pasties and crisps, so the group finished their drinks and left.

“Not tried the food, staff are really nice, that’s if you get to see them when bouncers are on. Had a bit of a mare on Thursday night, and all I wanted was a lemonade at my local. But standing between me and liquid paradise was a bouncer who had clearly mistaken the pub entrance for a high-security military checkpoint. He had the classic look: arms crossed, chest puffed out, and a face that suggested he hadn't smiled since 2012."Open the bag," he barked. Now, I’m all for safety, but his attitude was dripping with so much unnecessary hostility that I instantly felt my inner rebel wake up. I looked him dead in the eye and said, "No. Not with that attitude."It was a beautiful moment. The power dynamic shifted. His left eyebrow twitched. He was about to launch into a full "respect my authority" speech when his colleague nodded to let me in. “Let him in, he's a regular," the second bouncer said cheerfully. You could actually hear the first bouncer's ego shatter like a cheap wine glass. He had just been completely undermined by his own teammate. I gave a smug, victorious nod and walked past him, feeling like a VIP who had just bypassed the velvet rope.Turns out, VIP status lasts about four seconds. Before I could even smell the hops, a hand gripped my bag. The Ego-Bruised Bouncer had snapped. In one swift, incredibly dramatic motion, he hauled me backwards and launched me straight out of the pub like a sack of bad potatoes. He then stepped into the street, bouncing on his toes, practically begging me to swing at him. He wanted a film fight. He wanted to show off his martial arts.I looked at his 100kg frame, looked down at my own fists, and did some very quick math. The math said: don’t be silly. So, I chose the noblest weapon available to the modern citizen: shouting mildly embarrassing, uncoordinated abuse from a safe distance. I unleashed a barrage of insults, turned on my heel, and marched home like the toddler I felt I was. Now, I'm not saying I went back later. And I'm certainly not saying that a rogue egg mysteriously flew out of the sky and connected perfectly with the back of his bald, aggressive head. All I know is that a pure coincidence allegedly occurred in that exact spot later that night. But karma works in mysterious ways. Hypothetically speaking, if someone had been fleeing the scene of a dairy-based crime, they might have taken two explosive, adrenaline-fueled steps before their ankle completely gave way. Let's just say a dramatic, limbs-everywhere wipeout may or may not have occurred right on the pavement. Scrambling back up like a panicked cat, this completely anonymous individual would have ignored their scraped knees and sprinted into the night.I didn't get my lemonade, my pants are mysteriously ruined, and my knees are black and blue. But it's comforting to think that while someone was limping home, that bouncer might have spent the rest of his shift smelling like a raw omelette. Would have given 5 stars had it not been for recent incident with aggressive security. Scots Bri”

“The owner was rude and arrogant and dressed like a homeless person. Wouldn't bother going in. There are plenty of better options in the area.”

“Large traditional Joseph holt boozer. I only went into the tap room which seems to be a local spot. The footy was playing on tv and they had a darts match on. Happily sat in the corner supping a pint of Guinness. Fun old school vibe. Next time I’ll check out rest of the pub ⚽️ 🎯 🍻”
