Quick info
About El Vermut
El Vermut is an independent, family-run wine bar and shop in London, at 28 Nunhead Green, specialising in Spanish vermouth and modelled on the vermuterias of Spain. Vermouth leads the drinks list, and a zero-proof vermouth gives non-drinkers a place in the round. An old fashioned is also on the menu, and olives come out as a snack. The space is small and tight, so queues and waits form at peak times. Entry is walk-in. Live music runs on Sunday nights, with other music events and karaoke on some evenings. The function room next door can be hired for private events such as birthday parties, which suits groups.

Customer Review Summary
Vermouth is the main draw, described as banging, well served, and the best in town, with a newer zero proof vermouth and the old fashioned also praised. Olives and snacks are called tasty, though one reviewer wants more options needing no preparation. Staff are often called welcoming and friendly, and one bartender adapted service to shorten queues on a packed, tight night. Reviewers also mention a live band on Sunday nights, karaoke, and a new garden, and one advises planning ahead to pick the best time to get in. The complaints are pointed. One reviewer found staff unfriendly and judgy, as if ordering were an effort, and another called the staff rude and the management dreadful, alleging the high score is propped up by overnight five star reviews. Several reviewers held 30th birthday parties in the function room or the space next door, and one says staff sorted everything for their birthday.

“the vermouth itself is banging, really enjoyable and served well. But the staff working there are so unfriendly. There seems to be a very high horse energy, very judgey and exclusive. It’s a shame as the space is really great. I don’t ask for much, I work in hospitality myself and i know what it’s like to deal with rude customers, but no one is really present/ engaged and we were made to feel like ordering something was an effort for the staff. also pretty certain the general manager was absolutely wasted on shift which probably doesn’t help.”
