About Smoking Goat Shoreditch

Smoking Goat Shoreditch is a Thai restaurant on Shoreditch High Street, built around a central bar and counter with an open kitchen visible to diners. Fish sauce chilli wings arrive in a caramelised fish sauce glaze as a starter, alongside pork skewers and a daikon salad. Fried chicken comes crispy outside and tender inside, and the massaman curry, including a grilled bavette version, is often ordered with the house roti on the side, flaky and buttery. The room runs loud, with a lively, energetic feel. Seating is walk-in, and the restaurant opens daily.

Customer Review Summary

The fried chicken draws the most consistent praise, with reviewers repeatedly calling it crispy outside, tender inside, and standout thanks to its sauce, some declaring it among the best they've had. Close behind, the Massaman curry (and its bavette version) earns frequent mentions as a personal favorite, alongside the fish sauce chilli wings and roti, which several describe as flaky and buttery when paired with the curry. Other named dishes draw mixed reactions: the Som Tam salad's dressing struck some as overpowering, the pork skewer was called flavorless in the middle by one diner, and another found the Moo Hong Belly Chop poorly cooked given its fat. Service is mostly described as attentive and friendly, though one reviewer noted inconsistency among staff and another found the wait service slow. The atmosphere comes up often as loud and lively, with an open kitchen and counter seating some enjoyed. One reviewer flagged the fish sauce chilli wing's price as steep per piece, while another was still handed rice after the kitchen ran out of roti mid-meal.

“ok so this is probably the best chicken I’ve ever had in my life. It was fried chicken but it really doesn’t matter if the skind was peeled because the chicken itself its extremely tender… other dishes we’re really nice too so I bet everything is good. The fizzy waters we’re refreshing and the server was really kind. Bathroom is cute too.”

“Definitely a very trendy place with a lot of young people. It's super loud and it has a nice bar. We ordered some drinks and got the noodles, mackerel, massaman curry, daikon salad, mutton stir fry which was amazing. We ordered the wings to start with and a pork skewer. Everything was good but the curry and the stir fry were outstanding. Overall it was a good experience and I would recommend it.”

“We have been wanting to try the Smoking Goat in Shoreditch for some time. After a quick tube ride, we were warmly welcomed at the door, and this continued at our table. The waitress was friendly, helpful, and there when you needed her. After our group read the menu, we were excited to try the dishes to come. If you have eaten a lot of Thai food before — in Thailand or even in Sydney, Australia (which has some of the best Thai food) — you may find the food lacking some of those authentic flavours. That said, it is probably still one of the best Thai restaurants in London at the moment. The standout dish was the Massaman Curry grilled Bavette, the meat was cooked perfectly and the curry fulll of flavour. Other dishes we enjoyed on our table included the Stir Fried Squid & Salted Duck Egg, and the Fish Sauce Chilli Wings. I would avoid the Moo Hong Belly Chop & Fennel Ajat, as it was simply not cooked well enough given the amount of fat. All in all, a good meal with great service — but probably not the best Thai food I have eaten.”

“I was in the area and had been wanting to try this place for a while, so we stopped by for a late lunch and early dinner. The atmosphere is warm and cozy, and the staff were attentive and welcoming from the moment we arrived. They asked whether we had visited before, checked if we had any questions about the menu, and took the time to understand our preferred spice levels. Based on their recommendation, we ordered five dishes to share between the two of us. In hindsight, this was definitely too much food, depending on what you order, although that wasn't really explained to us at the time. The food itself was excellent overall. The drunken noodles were delicious, extremely spicy. The Massaman curry was probably my personal favourite, the sauce was absolutely incredible. Unfortunately, they had run out of roti, which would have paired perfectly with it, so we opted for rice instead, which is a huge portion btw. The fried chicken was another standout: crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside, and packed with flavour. We also tried the Som Tam salad, which was the only dish that didn't quite work for me. I found the dressing a little overpowering, taking away from the freshness and natural flavours of the salad. To drink, we ordered the watermelon and pineapple mocktails, both of which were refreshing, well-balanced, and absolutely delicious. Service remained attentive throughout the meal, with staff regularly checking in to make sure everything was to our liking. If it hadn't been for the recommendation to order five dishes without any guidance on portion sizes, and my disappointment with the salad, this would have been a five-star experience. That said, the food was genuinely impressive, and I'm already looking forward to coming back to try more of the menu. Really great Thai food. Loved it.”

“It was my first time at Smoking Goat and what a great experience. Our waiter recommended us some dishes and it did not disappoint. The food was delicious, full of flavor. The chicken wings are one of the best I’ve ever had. We had the roti bread, strawberry “salad” and pork belly, and it was all really good. Fantastic food and great service.”
