Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return above all for the bao, with the mushroom bao named most often, the beef brisket bao praised for its flavour, and the fluffiness of the buns getting its own mention. Close behind are the corn ribs, the sausage dumplings, and the apple gyozas with custard, plus a miso white chocolate cookie one diner calls a must order. A few praise the cocktails, and service is repeatedly described as friendly and lovely, with one regular calling it their go to place for family occasions. That same reviewer says you need to book to avoid disappointment. The criticism is narrower. One diner found the food ok but far from bao in China, not authentic or affordable, and short of other Peckham options. Another found the tea meh and the atmosphere nothing groundbreaking. Several diners celebrating birthdays describe a waitress bringing out special treats or a candle placed on their dessert.

“Maybe my tenth time in Mr Bao (plus lots of deliveroos…. Guilty!) and it never ever disappoints. The corn ribs are ridiculous. Had to review this time as the vibes were 10/10 and truly exceptional service from Serena today. Thank you for a lovely dinner!”

“I came here with my partner, and had the most amazing brunch. The drinks were beautiful, Evie and Phil personally recommended us amazing drinks and food. The food was so amazing! We are coming back for more food but the sausage dumplings are a must order. Was such a lovely day.”

“The food was ok, certainly not bad. I can tell thought was put into the flavour combinations and how to present it. I didnt see a single Chinese person as staff or customer, and I think it's very far from what bao is in china. I think if you want a pretty good meal, this would deliver, but don't expect authenticity or affordability. Unfortunately I think it also competes with some really good food in Peckham, so in comparison to those places it falls short. The cocktails were nice, again not incredible but pretty good.”

“I came to Mr Bao last night to celebrate my partner’s birthday. I would have given this 5 stars based on the quality of food alone, we had 8 dishes and there were truly no duds! Incredible flavours and the best food we’ve had in London in years. But what made the night really special, and what made me want to leave a review was the hospitality. Unfortunately I didn’t get her name but our waitress was great - really friendly and even brought out some special birthday treats for my partner which was unexpected but made the night that much more special! We’re over the moon to have discovered our new favourite restaurant.”

“We had a great meal! The food is the real star here—the beef brisket and mushroom bao were packed with flavor, and that miso white chocolate cookie is a must-try. Service was lovely and very attentive. The atmosphere is fine, though nothing groundbreaking, and the tea was a bit 'meh'—lacking a bit of punch. That said, the buns are so good I'll definitely be back for more!"”
