About Gina Restaurant

Gina Restaurant is a family-run neighbourhood restaurant in Chingford, London, on Station Rd, named after chef Mattie Taiano's mum, Gina. The kitchen cooks seasonal food, using beef from Swaledale and fish from Cornwall, with daily cuts listed on the blackboard. Beef tartare sits on the starter menu, and yellow chicken is served as a main with gravy. A proper pudding menu includes peach cobbler. Diners can choose a three-course set menu, and a burger and steak night puts bavette steak on the table with a choice of sauces. The restaurant takes group bookings and offers private hire.

Customer Review Summary

The chocolate cake is the most repeated draw, described as steamed, light and fluffy with a deep rich chocolate flavour, served with milk ice cream or cream, and one reviewer urges ordering it. Close behind are Gina's pasta, called tomatoey and rich by several, the yellow chicken with gravy, the beef tartare, and the bavette steak on Tuesday burger and steak night. Peach cobbler, asparagus soup, scallops and a Sunday roast also earn praise, along with friendly service and a lovely atmosphere. The main complaint comes from one detailed review: feeling rushed and pressed twice to order, the signature pasta with an acidic, undercooked tomato sauce served in a cracked dish with no replacement offered, a steak sold as 800g that arrived as a T-bone mostly bone, and small pasta portions for the price. Ox cheek and the tartare were that critic's highlights. One parent describes team members holding their son and showing him around so the family could eat in peace.

“We had a wonderful experience at Gina. The food was absolutely delicious, with memorable flavours and excellent quality. We ordered the Yellow Chicken and Marsh Leg Lamb, and both dishes were fantastic. The flavours were rich, well-balanced, and beautifully prepared. The staff were also incredibly friendly and attentive, which made the experience even more enjoyable. On top of that, the atmosphere was beautiful, warm, and inviting. Overall, Gina is a lovely place to enjoy great food, excellent service, and a memorable experience. Definitely a place I would recommend for a special meal and a great time.”

“I went to Gina's for the first time and had a great solo lunch. Really good fries and their cheese burger was one of the best I've had. But even better was Ravi's chocolate cake with milk ice cream. The cake is steamed so it's light and fluffy but with a deep rich chocolate flavour and I could eat the milk ice cream served with it by the tub. Would definitely recommend.”
