About Renegade Urban Winery - Restaurant, Bar & Event space
Renegade Urban Winery is a restaurant, bar and event space at 7 Lockwood Way in London that makes all its own wine on site. Wine is poured by the bottle and in tastings, which are held around a baby grand piano. The kitchen sends out small plates, including Pecorino croquettes and aubergine, and a roast is offered alongside a summer lunch menu. The venue spreads across two levels, and a mezzanine upstairs is where guests order their wine and food. It opens Thursday to Sunday. Private events take over the space at times, and walk-ins are not taken then. The winery sits next to the 40ft brewery on the beer mile.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often praise the wine made on site, with reviewers singling out the orange wines, the rosé and the Bethnal Bubbles as delicious, and several describing helpful tastings of wines from locally grown grapes. Close behind is the food, where pecorino croquettes, artichoke, olives, aubergine and a roast earn praise, and one reviewer calls the flavours zingy. Opinion on the kitchen is split, though. Another diner found the buttermilk wings too sweet, the mac croquettes and pink fir potatoes underseasoned, and the basil smash overly herbal, and the focaccia was called a bit dry. The loudest complaint is pricing. Three reviewers say bottles cost far more at the table than in a shop or as takeaway, and one reports that the Bethnal Bubbles was almost double its website price, with the waiter attributing it to London prices. One reviewer arrived to find the venue closed for a private event with no advance notice and suggests calling ahead. Others like the terrace and two-level space, and one hosted a party of 80 with a baby grand and a singer between wine tastings.

“You go to a winery, thinking you’ll get a good price for good wine. We have been coming here for the last few years and it’s always been great. However, for whatever reason, they’re charging restaurant prices despite the wine being made here. £50 for fizz. £45 for white/red. It’s madness. Won’t be coming back until the prices are more relevant. Can buy it cheaper in a shop. Waitress completely disregarded my complaints. It was empty. Not surprised why given the pricing. Such a shame as I love to support local businesses, but this is insane pricing.”

“Such a shame as this place has a lot of potential. The wine is delicious, but the mark up for having a bottle in compared to takeaway is ridiculous. A bottle of Bethnal Bubbles is £28 on their website, but we were charged £54 a bottle to have it with lunch. When we asked the waiter about this, he said it was ‘London prices’. I get there needs to be a slight mark up, but not almost double the price. Been for a roast before which was lovely. The summer lunch menu is hit and miss, starters and bread were great, but the mains were small and overpriced, and there wasn’t any guidance from the waiters about how much to order. Won’t be coming back.”

“This is the second time we have come here and we will be coming back. The food is deliciously zingy and hard to stop eating. The staff are welcoming and have the right balance of being attentive and relaxed and make the atmosphere easy and fun. Thank you renegade we love coming here !”

“We came here for a spontaneous wine-tasting. Martha was very informative and helpful and gave us a broad selection of wines made from locally grown grapes. It was an odyssey of flavours and fragrances. Well worth a visit!”
