About Guacamoles
Guacamoles is a Mexican restaurant at 48 Rye Ln in London, run from a stall inside Rye Lane Market. The kitchen makes its corn tortillas by hand each day, and they carry tacos filled with birria, carnitas or pastor, with vegetarian options on the menu as well. Guests eat on benches and shared tables arranged food hall style, so the space suits sharing a table with other diners. The stall is part of the Guacamoles London group, which also runs restaurants in Peckham, Hackney and Tooting. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Birria tacos are the dish reviewers raise most, repeatedly singled out as a favourite and packed with flavour, with pastor and carnitas close behind. Horchata and a cold Jarritos get mentioned alongside the tacos, and one reviewer praises the tres leches cake. The guacamole divides opinion. Some call it great, while another found it short on salt, more paste than chunky, with too few nachos to finish it. Fish tacos split reviewers too, one calling them just as good as the birria and another finding the fish tough and the flavour flat. The sharpest complaint comes from a vegan diner whose tacos were soggy, fell apart and tasted like they had sat too long, and who found the service poor. Another describes a busy room with overwhelmed table staff and a single tortilla that could not hold the filling. The market setting earns praise for its buzz and Mexican music, with food hall style benches and shared tables, and the birria and pastor come so loaded that one reviewer keeps a stack of napkins on standby.

“Guacamoles is a brilliant little surprise. The entrance looks slightly like the opening scene of a scary movie, but once you get inside it is a warm, lively and genuinely delightful place. The birria tacos were amazing, and the fish tacos were just as good. Great food, great atmosphere and well worth finding. Don’t judge it by the corridor.”

“We ordered the vegan tacos. They looked awful and tasted like a plastic tub as if it was sitting in there for too long. They were soggy to the point where it was dripping black liquid and fell out when trying to eat them, which was a blessing in disguise because the less that reaches your mouth the better. Service was really bad, didn't ask why we'd left a plate with one mouthful as he came and took the place number back. It's a shame as we'd heard good things about this place, but if you're vegan or vegetarian give this a hard swerve and go somewhere else.”

“I’m Mexican but not from the UK, but my boyfriend is. On my recent visit we were able to enjoy some delicious and authentic Mexican food. We loved it so much that we made sure to stop by once more before I had to come home. Manny recommended the tres leches cake which was absolutely delightful, and we are for sure fans of the Birria and Carnitas tacos. Special thanks to Pablo for being so helpful both times we were there! I cannot wait for my next visit to the UK to eat some delicious tacos!”

“Guacamoles has become one of my go to spots for proper Mexican street food, and Rye Lane Market is the perfect rustic setting for it. Decent prices, generously sized tacos and quick service mean you're not hanging about. The birria and pastor tacos are an absolute highlight, packed with flavour and so loaded up you'll want a stack of napkins on standby (learnt that the hard way). Sadly the fish tacos didn't quite hit the same heights, the fish itself was a touch tough and the flavour fell a bit flat compared to the meatier options. A bit more inventiveness here would really round out the menu. The venue itself has a great buzz, especially at weekends when the market is heaving, though it's noticeably quieter (in a good way if you fancy a relaxed bite) on weekday evenings. Seating is food hall style on benches and shared tables, which suits the whole vibe perfectly and adds to that authentic street food feel. In terms of value, you're getting some of the better tacos in London at this price point, no question. For comparison, El Pastor does offer slightly more variety and polish, but you're paying more for it and it's more of a sit down restaurant experience. If you want that proper rustic, no frills street food charm though, Guacamoles will always be my choice. Well worth a visit.”

“The guacamole wasn’t too great, lacked salt and could be chunkier not just a paste. Also, could be given more nachos as there were not enough to fully finish the guacamole. Regarding the tacos, they were rich but struggled to eat and dip them with the guacamole or birra sauce as one tortilla wasn’t enough to hold the filling. We should have paid £1 more to get double tortillas for the tacos but we didn’t see it on the menu, perhaps our fault because of the small print in the menu, but I think staff should specify that when ordering and make it more visible in the menu! The place was busy. Had to wait around 20 minutes for our food to be served. Some staff members handling the tables were overwhelmed.”
