Customer Review Summary
Reviewers consistently single out the Galbijjim, its tender soy-braised short ribs, as the standout dish, with the fresh Hwe and its chojang sauce close behind. Sweet potato glass noodles and samgyubsal also earn praise for texture and flavour. Portions run small and pricing edges up once service charge is added, but diners describe the cooking as comforting and consistently flavourful, with several saying they'd return.

“An easy five stars. Not presented in the traditional way, but the flavours were as good as they come — we loved everything, from the Asian twist on the tartare to the succulent chicken with that gentle crunch, the perfectly cooked tender …”

“Had a lovely dinner at Miga. The food was very good and everything felt carefully prepared, with a more refined feel than a casual Korean restaurant. We ordered the hwe, sweet potato glass noodles, galbijjim and samgyubsal. The hwe was fresh and clean tasting, especially with the chojang sauce. The sweet potato glass noodles had a lovely chewy texture and were very comforting. The galbijjim was probably my favourite dish, with tender soy braised short ribs and a rich, deep flavour. The samgyubsal was also very tasty, nicely cooked and served with a good sauce and vegetables. The portions were not huge, but the quality was definitely there. It is slightly on the expensive side, especially once the service charge is added, but the food was delicious and the whole meal felt well considered. A nice place for a special Korean dinner, and I would be happy to come back.”

“I used to live nearby and passed this restaurant regularly, so it had been on my radar for quite some time. What first caught my attention was its simplicity. After reading about the Ko family and their legacy in Korean cuisine, we finally decided to come for dinner. The restaurant itself is refreshingly minimalist, with no excessive décor or unnecessary ornamentation, which I personally appreciate. The main dining room also offers a clear view into the kitchen, allowing you to watch the Ko brothers preparing the food, a detail that adds a sense of authenticity and craftsmanship to the experience. To drink, we chose a bottle of Ciù Ciù (well maybe 2 in total), an Italian red wine, which proved to be an excellent choice. Everything we ordered was delicious, but there are a few dishes that I would consider absolute must-orders. The Galbijjim (braised short ribs) was undoubtedly the highlight of the meal. The meat was exceptionally tender and the soy-braised sauce was packed with flavour. If you visit Miga, this dish is a must. The Hwe (raw fish) was wonderfully fresh. Simple in presentation yet full of flavour, it paired beautifully with the accompanying chojang sauce. The Samgyubsal (fried pork belly) also impressed us. I expected a stronger sauce, but the dish was surprisingly flavourful and the pork was cooked perfectly. The Dag twigim (fried chicken with soy butter sauce) was another excellent choice, with the sweetness of the apple providing a lovely contrast. The Oligogi Tansuyug (fried duck) was equally enjoyable, especially with its balance of sweet and sour flavours. The Yughwe (beef tartare) surprised me with how well it paired with the Asian pear. It was very good, although it didn’t stand out quite as much as some of the other dishes, but still really GOOD. Finally, the Gaji (aubergine in soy sauce) was delicious. It’s certainly worth ordering, although it wasn’t one of the standout dishes of the evening. Overall, every dish was thoughtfully prepared and showcased high-quality ingredients. The combination of excellent flavours, clever contrasts, and carefully chosen accompaniments, together with the restaurant’s understated yet soulful atmosphere, makes it impossible for me not to recommend Miga. A must-visit if you love Korean food and find yourself in Hackney.”
