About Il Posto

Il Posto is an Italian restaurant in London at 316a Vauxhall Bridge Rd, close to Victoria station. The dining room has a wooden-beam ceiling and a tiled floor. A pre-theatre set menu gives diners a drink, bread for the table, a starter and a main before a show. The lasagne is built from layers of pasta and ragu with a béchamel on the outside, and the garlic bread comes with mozzarella. Pistachio tartufo is among the desserts. Gluten-free dishes are made on request rather than from a separate menu, and the gluten-free pasta is either penne or spaghetti.

Customer Review Summary

Lasagne is the dish diners name most, with one praising generous layers of pasta and ragu under a rich béchamel and another finding it piping hot and full of layers of flavour. Close behind is the pre-theatre set menu, where reviewers describe a drink, bread, starter and main in generous portions and call it good value. Others single out the garlic bread with mozzarella, the gnocchi a daughter loved, and the pistachio tartufo. A coeliac diner had gluten free penne with mushrooms, courgette and tomato sauce, plus a gluten free pannacotta, though only penne or spaghetti is offered as gluten free pasta and there is no separate menu. One reviewer calls the street not the nicest, yet describes the place as clean, lively and bigger inside than it looks. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly and attentive. Reviewers note it is small and can fill up, and a few suggest making a booking. One diner liked the pizza so much they ordered a second to take away.

“Had the pre theatre set menu yesterday. Great value at £26.50, includes a drink ( we had prossecco and a soft drink) bread for the table, a starter and a main. All were delicious and very generous portions. Service was quick and attentive. Just wish I had room for dessert, oh well they'll definitely be a next time!”

“AMAZING pre-show dinner. The food was absolutely delicious and our server was amazing. I wish I’d gotten his name! If I’d just walked by on the street, I wouldn’t have thought twice about this place. But I am SO glad that we found out about it online. Every course was amazing, and the pre-show menu deal is an EXCELLENT value.”

“An absolutely lovely experience. We were met with a warm welcome from the helpful staff, and served in time but without any pressure. After choosing from quite an extensive menu, our starters and mains arrived without fuss, and with a beaming smile. The Lasagne was full of layers of flavour and piping hot, and my daughter loved the gnocchi. And let’s not forget the decent wine list, of which we found to be reasonably priced. Make no mistake, this is incredibly good and honest Italian dining at its best. Make a booking, and you won’t regret it.”

“It was our second time here. We chose Il Posto for the gluten free options. Although there is no separate menu, some dishes can be made gluten free. I had gf penne pasta, with mushrooms, courgette and tomato sauce. The only options for gluten free pasta is penne or spaghetti, but the sauce and veg was delicious. For dessert I had the gf Pannacotta, which I highly recommend. Although the restaurant was very busy (being Pride weekend), and we did not have a reservation, we were given a table. The service was quick, efficient and friendly. I would recommend a visit, particularly if you are coeliac and wanted something fairly healthy.”
