About Florentine Restaurant & Bar

Florentine Restaurant & Bar is an Italian restaurant in London, set inside the Park Plaza Waterloo hotel at 6 Hercules Rd. The kitchen covers a wide span of the day, from English breakfast to Sunday roast, with Italian dishes in between. Margarita pizza and gnocchi sit on the Italian side, while fish and chips and breakfast plates such as poached eggs with avocado on bread give the menu a British lean. A full bar runs alongside the food, and DJs add music to the evenings. The dining room is fully air-conditioned.

Customer Review Summary

Pizza draws the most comment, and opinion splits. Two reviewers call the Margarita bland or awful, basically plain cheese with a single mozzarella ball and a base that seemed bought in, while others praise a full baked, cheesy pizza and call the pizzas fabulous. Close behind is the oversized burger, too big for six diners to finish, plus a very nice gnocchi, sea bass and steak. Reviewers also fault the tagliatelle as mediocre and call the price hefty. Slow service recurs. On Christmas Day the chips arrived after the steak was finished and the chicken skewers came out pink, and another family had to ask the manager for the bill. Servers earn warm praise, though one reviewer saw managers watch an overwhelmed waitress cope alone. One birthday party's burger arrived with a candle and a sung happy birthday.

“Unfortunately, my experience at Florentine was disappointing, particularly because of the lack of support and professionalism I witnessed from the management team. When I first arrived, I was left waiting at the entrance to be seated. A lady in a suit, who I assumed was a manager or supervisor, clearly saw me waiting but instead of coming over to greet or seat me, she remained inside the restaurant looking over and waited for one of the waiters to eventually come and assist me. As a guest, this immediately gave a poor first impression. As the restaurant became busier, things became even more concerning. The young waitress serving me was genuinely lovely, friendly and clearly working extremely hard. However, it was obvious that she had far too much to deal with and very little support. Despite being under pressure, she remained polite and professional throughout, and I genuinely cannot fault her service. What shocked me was seeing the lady in the suit later return with what appeared to be another supervisor. They could clearly see how busy the restaurant had become and how much pressure the waitress was under. They walked around the restaurant, observed what was happening and then left her to continue dealing with everything. It was uncomfortable to watch as a customer. When guests can visibly notice that a member of staff is overwhelmed and unsupported, there is clearly an issue behind the scenes. Management should be stepping in and supporting their team during busy periods, not simply observing them struggle. The waitress deserves recognition because she handled a difficult situation extremely well. Unfortunately, the lack of visible leadership and support negatively affected the overall guest experience and completely changed my impression of the restaurant. A good restaurant isn’t just about the food — the way staff are supported and managed is something customers notice too. Based on what I witnessed, this is an area Florentine seriously needs to improve.”

“Very nice hidden gem. Fully AC when needed while 34C outside. Proper dine in experience. All went as it supposed to (perhaps sparkling water came bit late when requested as first thing at the table as we were thirsty). Other than that cider was beautiful and pizzas were fabulous! Highly recommended!”

“This is a Margarita pizza. It came with a 1 inch mozzarella ball in the middle. Base I would say was bought in. Taste was bland! And it cost £16.00 Save your money go somewhere else.”

“Visited this lovey establishment on Saturday afternoon. The bar and kitchen took awfully long to provide what I had ordered but my lovely server Libby profusely apologised, and insured all she could do for me was done to perfection. Service was amazing due to Libby even as I saw what I think was her manager, lounging around. Food was decently priced and well portioned for a restaurant in this location. If it wasn’t for the warm service provided I wouldn’t consider revisiting.”

“Came in later in the evening with my family after a long day of exploring London. We were tired and it since it was located in the hotel we figured it would save us the trouble of having to find somewhere family friendly later at night. My wife and I each had Margarita pizza's and my son had fish and chips. The pizza's were awful. They lacked flavour and ingredients. It was basically just a plain cheese pizza. The service was also quite slow. We had to remind the server several times to bring us a bill and then eventually just found the manager and asked him to bring it to us. It was our first and last visit to this restaurant during our week long stay.”
