About Ave Mario
Ave Mario is an Italian restaurant and pizzeria at 15 Henrietta St in Covent Garden, London, and part of the Big Mamma group. The 700m² trattoria takes its inspiration from Florence and seats 295 guests across multiple levels, each with a different atmosphere. Two terraces sit alongside the indoor floors, and a bar stands at the entrance. The Pasta Carbonara is served in a 4kg pecorino wheel, and the menu also lists Carpaccio di Manzo among the starters. Tiramisu is one of the desserts. The kitchen opens daily for lunch and dinner. The restrooms are designed in bright colours, with neon lighting and mirrored walls.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often return for the carbonara, served in a cheese wheel, which reviewers repeatedly call special and one of the best they have had. Close behind are the truffle pizza, the Parma ham pizza and a tartufo pasta, with burrata, bruschetta and bread as starters, and tiramisu and panna cotta among the desserts. The multi-level room, the bar near the entrance and the brightly designed restrooms draw frequent comment, and several describe the staff as friendly and attentive, including one who catered to a reviewer's allergies. Complaints are more specific. One reviewer found a pizza wet and drenched in oil, and another called it a little undercooked with a crust that could be crispier in the middle. A third describes a server who discouraged sending the ragu back, never checked on the table and still added a service charge. Another notes small, tight tables and a returned dish that arrived after everyone had finished eating. Several suggest booking ahead because dinner is very busy, and one reviewer's party noticed the bill came in lower than expected after that returned dish.

“We were really looking forward to visiting this restaurant, especially given the beautiful interior and the positive reviews online. Unfortunately, the food and service did not live up to our expectations at all. The food was honestly shocking. Our pizza arrived wet and absolutely drenched in oil — something you might expect from a takeaway, rather than a highly rated Italian restaurant. The focaccia and burrata to start were decent, but honestly nothing special. I also politely asked our server whether the ragu was meant to be served al dente (particularly hard and chewy), as it wasn’t what I had expected. Rather than simply answering my question or having a conversation about it, she repeatedly told me not to bother sending it back to the kitchen, despite the fact that I hadn’t asked to send it back and was only asking out of curiosity. Throughout the meal, we felt like an absolute bother to our server, which was particularly disappointing given that we were still charged a 12.5% service charge. She never once checked on us or asked how our food was, despite us leaving the majority of it uneaten. The service was extremely poor, with very little interaction from our server and a general feeling that we were an afterthought. For the price point, the restaurant has a fabulous interior and clearly puts a lot of effort into its appearance. Unfortunately, the quality of the food and service simply did not match what was advertised online or what we expected from a restaurant at this price.”

“As usual, Ave Mario was an incredible experience! Adriana was so lovely and attentive, making sure that my allergies were catered to and that we had a fun and relaxing evening. The truffle pizza is a personal favorite, as is their iconic tiramisu. Thank you for always making us feel so welcome! ♥️🍕✨”

“I was in the mood for Italian food! I sat at the kitchen counter and had the pleasure of watching a well organized crew prepare mouth watering delicious dishes. Everyone worked in harmony with one another. The kitchen was also spotless, my crab pasta dish was yummy and I felt like I was watching a cooking show. I enjoyed my dinner very much! 😋”

“First visit here June 2026 with kids. We sat outside as it was a beautiful warm day. Ave Mario is part of the Big Mamma chain of Italian restaurants, which I’ve always wanted to try, and it definitely lived up to expectations. From the moment you arrive, the restaurant is incredibly impressive. The Christmas decorations were stunning, and despite looking fairly modest from the outside, the restaurant is spread over multiple levels. The bar at the entrance is particularly eye-catching and sets the tone for the experience. We had pizzas and carbonara all of which were delicious. we enjoyed carbonara served dramatically in a cheese wheel, Parma ham pizza. Every dish was packed with flavour and beautifully presented. Dessert was just as impressive, with a selection of tiramisu, pineapple and cream, and panna cotta—the panna cotta in particular was incredible. You must try their showstopper lemon merengue cake. Even the bathrooms stood out, with funky neon lighting and mirrored walls adding to the restaurant’s bold and playful vibe. Overall, Ave Mario delivered an unforgettable dining experience, and it’s definitely a restaurant I’d return to for an incredible Italian meal.”
