“Paradise is my favourite local restaurant. I have lived locally and been coming here with my family for 35 years. As a child, for a special treat every few weeks, we would get Indian takeaway. If it wasn't too cold out I loved to go pick it up with my dad and be given an extra after-dinner mint chocolate while standing in awe-struck admiration of the dumb-waiter. With teenagehood and maturity my parents started to occasionally take us to eat in the restaurant itself. Nostalgia doesn't always live up to the hype - but in this case, it does. As far as I can tell, the food on offer is the same as it was in my childhood, and every bit as delicious (only I am a more adventurous eater these days). When hosting foreign guests, we always take them here. The staff patiently wait as we peruse the menu and then order the exact same things we always choose. On repeat visits, the guests usually make a point of asking if we can go back. Today, I was stressed and boycotted making myself dinner at the last minute. So I marched over for some comfort food to cheer myself up. It's quite special to go someplace where you are recognised, especially in this era with restaurants popping up all over catering to every taste. So I basked in the warm glow of a familiar environment with a tingle of spices on my lips. I feel extremely well taken care of. Paradise, indeed!”
