About Masala King
Masala King is an Indian restaurant in London, at 131 Drummond St. The vegetarian thali comes in generous portions, which gives meat-free diners a full plate to order. For meat and seafood, the kitchen sends out a lamb shank and a tandoori king prawn sizzler, each served with pilau rice and cashew rice. A lunch offer pairs a samosa and chicken curry with rice and a Fanta. Butter chicken is also on the menu. The restaurant has a basement level, reached by steep stairs.

Customer Review Summary
The vegetarian thali is the draw, with generous portions that left one table full and a local worker who tried every restaurant on the street calling it the favorite and the cheapest. Close behind are a lunch offer of samosa, chicken curry and rice with a Fanta, a lamb shank, a tandoori king prawn sizzler, and a butter chicken sweeter than expected but very tasty. Staff are called friendly and polite, and one reviewer found the owner kind and accommodating. The recurring complaint is extra charges. Two reviewers note that poppadoms or their chutney are billed separately, and one says the extra on the mixed starter cost more, though it is listed on the menu. One reviewer found the toilet down steep stairs with basement building work in view and wanted it cleaned, while another calls the place neat and clean. One diner asked for a milder dish and got it, and another received free food samples from the owner.

“Quiet when we arrived, a place you can be on your own or with friends. Good menu though I notice know you are charged for the poppadoms 'extras' which is slightly cheeky. But it does say on the menu so not a hidden charge. Food nice. Not fabulous but great. Just a little tip. Down the very steep stairs is the toilet and there is evident building work going on in the basement - maybe run a curtain so its not in view. And also a quick flick of a cleaning cloth around the toilet wouldn't go a miss.”
