Quick info
About Bombay Delight
Bombay Delight is an Indian restaurant in Wimbledon, London, and the second site from chef and founder Ajay Chaurasia, whose first restaurant is in Vauxhall. The menu pairs lesser-known regional dishes with familiar favourites. From the tandoor comes Murgh Hariyali Tikka, grilled chicken breast marinated in green spices and yoghurt, and the kitchen also prepares vegan options. Bombay butter chicken, which the restaurant shortens to BBC, comes with garlic naan. Masala drinks and cocktails run alongside the food, including masala chai served without sugar. A brunch menu and an à la carte menu are both available, and special event menus, such as a tennis menu, sit next to the regular one. Elephant head sculptures hang on the walls, and an indoor waterfall feature adds a second decor piece. The restaurant takes walk-ins.
Good to know
“EAT, DRINK, ENJOY INDIAN. Following the success of his first restaurant in Vauxhall, chef and founder Ajay Chaurasia has opened a second site in Wimbledon, bringing his own personal take on Indian cuisine to South-west London. On offer is a range of lesser-known regional dishes along with plenty of tried-and-tested favourites so there’s something for everyone at this bright and cheerful restaurant. Chaurasia’s aim is to bring together flavours from all over the Indian continent. Tandoor highlights include Murgh Hariyali Tikka, which is grilled chicken breast marinated with fresh green spices and yoghurt, as well as vegan options, too.”

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often praise the kitchen's menu of dishes not found in a standard curry house, alongside well-executed favourites. The Bombay butter chicken with garlic naan is called perfect, and the lamb Angara curry is described as melt-in-the-mouth tender. Close behind are the chicken tikka kathi roll, seekh kabab, paneer chillies and a gajar ka halwa dessert, with cocktails called delicious and big. Reviewers describe the atmosphere as warm, inviting and jazzy, with elephant head sculptures and an indoor waterfall, and most find the staff friendly and not pushy, with food arriving hot and quickly. The complaints are few but specific. One reviewer found two staff members rude, the one who showed them to the table and the one serving, and says their husband and sister felt the same. Another wished for a better portion size. One reviewer also notes that a server fetched the owner from the kitchen when they mentioned meeting him the day before, and he came out to greet them.

“Delicious food, excellent service, and genuinely friendly, welcoming staff. It’s a shame we didn’t discover this place sooner. We’ll definitely be returning and would happily recommend it to others.”

“My sister and I met the owner of this restaurant in a square in SW19 on our arrival day to London. We were both exhausted and Jen was a bit slower than me getting up from a seated position from the ground, he rushed over to offer help. He was absolutely lovely. We decided to eat at his restaurant the following evening and we were not disappointed. The food was delicious, the first server was ok but our second server was much better and after we were finished eating we mentioned to her the events that had unfolded the day prior and she went to grab him from the kitchen. He is a warm lovely man, who is treats his guests like family. Highly recommend this restaurant. We will be going back before we go home.”

“On this relentlessly hot day, with two energetic children in tow, we decided to make a day of it and head to the theatre. I booked Bombay Delight for a pre‑theatre lunch, and it was such a good choice. We ordered a mix from the brunch menu and the à la carte. The absolute favourites were the chicken tikka kathi roll and the Lamb Angara curry with rice, the lamb was melt‑in‑the‑mouth tender and cooked to perfection. My seven year old loved the kathi roll and even had seconds of the lamb, which is very unlike her as she usually doesn’t eat much. Dessert was a lovely finish, the gajar ka halwa was divine, and for my more traditional seven‑year‑old, the chocolate brownie with ice cream hit the spot. I’d also recommend the masala chai, served without sugar so you can sweeten it exactly to your taste. The whole experience was made even better by the excellent and attentive staff, especially Kirpal, who is new to the job and genuinely one of the nicest, most patient waiters we’ve come across. For two adults and two children, the meal was great value. We enjoyed three courses and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. And importantly, the restaurant is air‑conditioned, which was a blessing in this heat. We’ll definitely be visiting again.”

“Amazing food and service was excellent! We went during a weekday evening and it was fairly quiet considering it wasn’t a weekend. Walking in the vibe was immaculate. It smelt nice, the decor and furnishings were inviting such as elephant head sculptures on the walls, and an indoor waterfall feature. The service was great and not too pushy, gave us plenty of time to choose what we wanted as there was plenty to choose from on the menu. The food didn’t take too long to arrive and everything came nice and hot. The drinks were great, the main courses were so full of flavour and the desserts were lovely too. Came due to the high ratings on google and I’m not disappointed. Definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone!”

“A quiet place on a Monday afternoon. Very elegant decor and pleasant atmosphere. A wide variety of menu, maybe because of an ongoing food festival. Great food and quick service!”
