About Paul Rothe & Son
Paul Rothe & Son is a deli at 35 Marylebone Lane in London, run by the same family since 1900 and focused on freshly made sandwiches and soup. Sandwiches come on granary or white bread. The pastrami sandwich comes with Italian salami and coleslaw, or with emmental and pickles, and coronation chicken is among the other fillings. A Scotch egg is served with mustard. Soup sits on the menu alongside the sandwiches. The shop is small, and its shelves hold jams and condiments sold in jars. It opens Monday to Saturday, daytime only, and closes on Sundays.

Customer Review Summary
The pastrami sandwich is what reviewers name most, described as fresh and light enough that every ingredient comes through, and one regular calls it a must try. Close behind are the coronation chicken and seafood cocktail fillings, a toasted cheddar with red onions and chutney, and a scotch egg with mustard. Diners praise the granary and white bread as fresh, the generous fillings, and the smiley, helpful staff, and several describe an old school London charm in a small shop that has run for over a century. One reviewer also bought jars of jams and condiments from the shelves. The criticism centers on value and flavor: a roast beef sandwich with pickles was called very average and pricey for a sandwich and coffee, an egg sandwich on soft bagged bread stayed under-salted even with extra salt requested, and another reviewer found the pastrami and salami sandwich lacked oomph. A few mention a long line out front, and one reviewer felt it did not match the sandwich. Even so, one group who shared a single sandwich regretted not ordering two, and the shop still made it at 16:00.

“Had the roast beef sandwich with pickles. Very average. Quite pricey too. Paid around 15 pounds for a sandwich and coffee. Didn't enjoy my time here.”

“Solid sandwich shop, long line out front. Egg sandwich was nothing extraordinary - $6. Bread was soft but out of a bag, and I asked for extra salt but still wasnt salty enough. Would go back for a solid sandwich but felt the line would’ve meant it was amazing!”

“Had the best sandwiches of my life. I am convinced I should move close to this place to be able to eat here daily. This is further away from Gail's than Gail's is from McDonald's”

“Our go-to sandwich shop whenever we're around the area! Sometimes we even commute here JUST for the sandwiches. Very impressive that this place has been running for over a century! All sandwiches are great and are generously filled but the pastrami sandwich is a MUST try. Highly recommend!”

“A Marylebone institution that feels like a beautiful step back in time. I had the pastrami sandwich and it was a revelation—so fresh and light that you can actually taste every ingredient in a single bite. The chicken was also out of this world! I couldn't resist the incredible selection of jams and condiments on the shelves; I ended up bringing a few jars home. Such a nice, welcoming atmosphere. A 5-star local treasure!”
