About Italo
Italo is a deli and coffee shop in London, at 13 Bonnington Square, with an Italian grocery counter alongside its sandwiches. The sandwich menu changes daily and offers one vegetarian and one meat option, served on light, crunchy, fluffy bread. Fillings have included a sausage and fennel sandwich and mushrooms with egg and pesto. A homemade sausage roll sits alongside them. The deli side stocks olives, olive oil and Italian breads to take home. Coffee and iced lattes are on the drinks menu, and the shop also pours wine by the bottle or by the glass.

Customer Review Summary
Sandwiches from the daily changing menu are the main draw. Reviewers single out a mushroom, egg and pesto breakfast sandwich and a sausage and fennel one, and describe the bread as light with a bit of bite. Close behind come the homemade sausage roll, the olives and olive oil, and an iced latte called delicious, along with outdoor seating and an atmospheric, characterful interior. Several call the staff kind and friendly. The picture is not uniform, though. One reviewer found a sandwich small, with barely any filling, bread like styrofoam and flavourless fillings, and felt it was poor value. Another found one sandwich over salty and a coffee shot that tasted stale. A few describe the counter staff as lacklustre and uninviting, with no greeting and a curt "what would you like". Another says customers get hurried as 3pm approaches and that the place can feel exclusive to regulars. Even so, one diner who walked in as the shop was closing was still given a sandwich built from the ingredients left on the daily menu.

“Vibes and delicious sandwiches. What more could you want? Also one of the most delicious iced lattes I’ve had in recent times. Would return. Would recommend.”

“Got recommended this and still chose to walk in as they were closing up (like a dope) they accomadated me and ensured I got a sandwich with what ingredients they had left from there fresh daily menu. Next time I should plan properly. So few places that work on proper fresh ideas and flavours as well as these do”

“Really wanted to like this place and the staff and settings are lovely but £13 for this tiny sandwich with barely any filling is a joke, further to that the bread was like styrofoam and the filling was flavourless and boring. Further to that i thought the colour of the pork was a bit off and was definitely feeling it later on that day. Was also £3 for a small apple juice which is by the by but not great. If you compare this to max’s sandwich shop in Finsbury Park which is probably 3-4x bigger and way tastier there’s really no valid reason to bother wasting your money on this. Super disappointed by this place having wanted to try it for so long.”

“I’ve been to this cafe three times now, I’ll preface by saying it’s worth a trip to try a sandwich. The food is overall pleasant, one sandwich was great, another time it was a little over salty but I guess that was the nature of the sandwich, the time we tried the main food item that was also great. The first time I got coffee and honestly it tasted as if the shot had been sat there for a while and wasn’t the best. I do think this place is nice and atmospheric. I enjoy the decor and the food is decent. However - every time I’ve been in (at differing levels of business) I’ve always felt the staff to be a little lacklustre, for example the staff member was making a coffee, turned to look at me once I came into the shop but just turned back around, no smile or a hello. I’ve asked them how their day was at the till to just be met with “what would you like” - i understand there isn’t necessarily anything wrong with these interactions, but every time I’ve been in I’ve just not felt invited as I’d hoped. Also one of them was taking an order and had simultaneously taken a hit off what looked to be a vape but I could be wrong - Maybe I’ve just caught them on a bad day, although it has made me not feel as strongly to come back. - overall not good, not bad, just a little uninviting”
