Customer Review Summary
Groups and work gatherings are the main draw, with reviewers describing helpful staff who rearranged booths for a table of eight at short notice, gave a large party plenty of space, and kept checking in with table service. Drinks earn steady praise, including a South African Chardonnay sampled before choosing and cocktails called good and not too pricey. Close behind, the Buck N Bull Country Brunch and a breakfast meeting get enthusiastic mentions. Food is the uneven part. Several find it average: pork burnt ends arrived as flavourless breadcrumb bites, the salt and pepper squid and gohan curry lacked flavour, and one suggests skipping the underwhelming starters for the larger plates. One turkey dinner drew complaints of cold turkey, watery gravy, under-cooked parsnips, tiny portions of smoked salmon, music too loud for conversation, and first drinks arriving after the first course. Another reviewer also found service slow at first. A birthday booking ended with a brownie topped with sparklers.

“I made a reservation here for a company social gathering and the entire booking process was seamless and very convenient. Imogen, whom I believe is the event organiser, was the lady who I spoke to on the phone and she was extremely polite and helpful. The venue itself is beautiful and very hospitable. We made a booking for 20 people and were given more than enough space. The staff were lovely and very helpful, and consistently coming up and asking if we needed anything. Overall the experience was great and we would definitely consider coming back for another work social, and would strongly recommend to anyone looking to organise a social or even just go to for drinks!!”

“Forgive me for not taking / remembering names... but the lovely young lady who I spoke to when I walked in could not have been more polite or helpful (Tuesday 21st, 3:10pm). I was after a table for eight people at short notice, and not only was she and the staff prepared to move around a couple of booths to accommodate this, but they thought of me when another booking cancelled a round table seating 8-10 people. Perfect. That young lady deserves some praise! The bar staff were also super-friendly, allowing me to try a couple of wines before settling on an excellent South African Chardonnay. Five Stars all around for this, the vibe, cleanliness and the constant table service we received. Definitely coming back here for all my afternoon meetings. Thanks.”

“Utter abomination of a meal. For £56!!! They’re laughing at us. Beetroot smoked salmon? Two wisps of it, only really detected with a magnifying glass. Crayfish salad? Invisible sea-monkeys more like. Ok soggy bread to boot.’and how about ice cold roast turkey with a shivering no-bacon pig in blanket, and gravy as watery as water. Under-cooked parsnips. The cheesecake was kind of ok. Music so loud you can’t hear the person next to you shout and service so slow our first drinks arrived way after the first course had been served. Utterly shocking. This place should be ashamed of themselves.”

“The Anthologist is one of those rare places that strikes the perfect balance between atmosphere, flavor, and hospitality. From the moment you walk in, you’re welcomed by a warm, stylish setting that feels both relaxed and refined — the kind of place that works equally well for a casual lunch, after-work drinks, or a special dinner. The menu is creative without being pretentious. Every dish feels thoughtfully crafted — fresh ingredients, bold flavors, and beautiful presentation. The small plates are ideal for sharing (the [insert a dish you liked, e.g., Korean-fried cauliflower or truffle mac & cheese] was a standout), and the cocktails are exceptional — well-balanced, inventive, and beautifully served. Service is another strong point. The staff are friendly, attentive, and genuinely passionate about what they do. They’re always happy to offer recommendations, which makes the experience feel personal rather than formulaic. Whether you’re there for brunch, cocktails, or dinner, The Anthologist delivers every time. It’s stylish but not stuffy, vibrant but comfortable — a perfect spot to unwind and enjoy great food and good company. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Highly recommended.”

“Beautifully decorated with a sleek, modern design and a clean, open view of the bar area. The service was attentive and friendly, which made the experience pleasant. We tried a few starters, honestly, they were underwhelming, so I’d suggest going for the larger plates, which might be their stronger point. Prices are reasonable for the setting, and overall it’s worth a visit.”
