About The Refinery Citypoint

The Refinery Citypoint is a cocktail bar in London on Ropemaker Street, and it runs Taste Film screening nights that pair a movie with a multi-course themed food menu. Films include Friends and Mean Girls, and themed cocktails come alongside the courses. Each event opens with a quiz led by hosts, with the audience shouting out answers. Servers bring out food and clear empties while the film plays. A vegan menu is offered, and the same servers work through all the courses to avoid cross contamination. Chicken Milanese is one of the dishes served. The bar is open Tuesday to Friday and closed on Mondays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers mostly come for the Taste Film events, where a themed film or series screening is paired with a multi-course meal, and they cite Friends, The Simpsons Movie, Mean Girls and Guardians of the Galaxy. The pre-show quiz and the hosts who get the room shouting answers draw repeated praise, and several describe the food as themed and filling, with one saying they were stuffed. Close behind are the vegan menu, where one diner notes the same servers handled every course to avoid cross contamination, the Chicken Milanese, a white wine recommendation and the cocktails. Staff are described as fast, friendly and discreet. The caveats are specific: one reviewer found the room too hot and could not get a server's attention to order the themed drinks, which were missing from the app, and wanted a start time at entry and the credits left to roll. Another wished a drink was included in the ticket price. One reviewer, wary after reading mixed reviews, left calling the food timing bang on and the evening a perfect birthday experience.

“Another amazing Taste Film experience - The Simpsons Movie! I have also been to the Mean Girl’s themed version which was incredible. Great hosts, staff, atmosphere and food (but too much food in this case! Lol!)”

“Braveen Kumer was absolutely fantastic. Kind, attentive, genuine and always smiling, he made our whole experience feel special. Nothing was too much trouble and his warm, positive attitude was a real highlight of our evening. The food was excellent, but Braveen’s service made the visit unforgettable. A true credit to the restaurant and one of the best waiters we’ve ever had. Thank you, Braveen!”

“Such a great afternoon! The only reasons I’m deducting a star 😭 1. It was way too hot. 2. The special themed drinks were not available to order on the app, and I couldn’t get anyone’s attention to order one, they were either bringing out food or taking away empties. 3. On entry it would’ve been nice if they told us what time the film was actually starting, and please let the credits roll 🙈 But overall, food and drinks were amazing, service was really good. Seating was comfy and had plenty of space at the table. Film was obviously top notch :-) And I liked the quiz before hand.”

“Went for ‘Taste Film’ Really great time. The hosts Niamh and Emit (not sure if I spelt correctly) were great laughs and made the start entertaining. The food was amazing. The cocktails were delish too. You won’t want to eat anything before because I am stuffed to the brim! Bought as a present for my fiancés 30th and he loved it. Will recommend to others as gifts too!”
