About Wing Tai Restaurant

Wing Tai Restaurant is a Chinese restaurant in London, at 395 Edgware Rd, serving dim sum and dinner from a Cantonese, Hong Kong-style menu. Dim sum includes cheung fun rice noodle rolls, and the Chinese BBQ side covers crispy roast pork and char siu. Fried rice, including a Yin Yang version, and hor fun round out the dinner options. The dining room is large and decorated in an old-school Hong Kong style, and a private dining room gives groups a space of their own. The restaurant sits next to the Wing Yip supermarket and a Chinese bakery, so a meal fits easily alongside a grocery run.

Customer Review Summary

Dim sum is what most reviewers return to Wing Tai for, and it divides them. Families call it a Saturday lunch tradition and a go-to for dim sum, with food served hot, seating arranged quickly and generous portions. Others find it bland, with cheung fun skin described as thick and powdery, radish cake not silky, and congee unseasoned. Close behind are the Cantonese dishes: one reviewer recommends the char siu, crispy roast pork, lobster yee mee and Yin Yang fried rice, while another singles out fried aubergine with garlic and crispy batter. Service is called fast and efficient, though not especially warm. Value is mixed. Some find prices reasonable, but one diner paid a lot for a oily beef brisket hotpot and dry, chewy salt and chilli squid. Another found the chilli oil flavourless and got no soy sauce with the dim sum. Many mention shopping at the neighbouring supermarket and bakery after eating, and one describes the room as chaotic, loud and vibrant.

“Like many generations of British-born or UK-based Chinese families, Wing Tai has been a local staple for us for decades, whether for dim sum or dinner. It’s also incredibly convenient, sitting right next to Wing Yip supermarket and a Chinese bakery, so you can easily combine lunch or dinner with a bit of Chinese food shopping. I hadn’t been for a long while, but coming back for dinner one evening and then dim sum the following day, I’m pleased to say it didn’t disappoint. Yes, prices have steadily increased with inflation, but the food quality, speed and efficiency of the service remain consistently high. Just manage your expectations: if you’re looking for a fine-dining experience, this probably isn’t the place for you. You come to Wing Tai for great Chinese food, served quickly and efficiently and then you’re off! That’s exactly what makes it work so well.”

“August 22nd 17:00. I was surprised by how spacious the place was and it was spotless, too. The service was impressively fast. Surprisingly, the highlight for me was Fried aubergine. Garlic and crispy batter paired perfectly with the aubergine, which was so tender it practically melted in my mouth. I honestly wished that flavor could just live in my mouth forever. The Fried rice was delicious, of course. However, have you ever actually had *bad* Fried rice? but it wasn't exactly exceptional.”

“Not bad overall—generous portions and more affordable than many dim sum spots. However, the quality doesn’t quite match up to places like Royal China. Service is what you’d expect from a typical Chinese restaurant—efficient but not especially warm or friendly.”
  • MAOMI
“I ordered beef brisket hotpot, salt and chilly squid and stuffed prawn on aubergine, peppers and tofu. The pictures can speak for itself. I paid £58+ on 3 items very expensive and very low quality. The squid is old and very chewy and dry. Hotpot was very oily it’s drowned in it as you can see on the picture. Yucky. If you want a more affordable and quality chinese dish, go next door at Reindeer Cafe inside Wing Yip!”

“Our go-to for family Dim Sum. Consistent and suited to our taste. Chaotic, loud, vibrant - exactly the vibe you expect from a bustling restaurant that serves the whole community.”
