About 二舅姥爷砂锅炖 Second Granduncle
二舅姥爷砂锅炖 Second Granduncle is a Chinese restaurant in London at 12 Brick Ln, built around Northeastern-style iron pot stew (铁锅炖). The stews come in big casseroles for sharing, with beef, chicken or pickled cabbage versions, and buns or dumplings can go into the pot to cook in the stew. The pot dishes are eaten with steamed rice or old-style fried rice. Beyond the pots, the kitchen makes a spicy beef casserole for the table and handmade dumplings, including a chive fried dumpling. The restaurant is open Tuesday to Sunday and closed on Mondays.

Customer Review Summary
Diners come mainly for the Northeastern iron pot casseroles, with beef versions mentioned most, including a spicy beef casserole and a beef trio hotpot with tendon and tripe. Reviewers describe brisket so tender it falls off chopsticks. A chicken casserole with fall-off-the-bone meat and potato cubes, a pickled cabbage claypot, and an iron pot stewed bone also draw praise. Close behind is the double cooked sweet and sour pork, called crispy and served with peach. Handmade dumplings, chive fried dumplings, and teppanyaki octopus tentacles described as succulent also come up. Reviewers repeatedly call the food authentic and the service friendly, and one says a waitress walked them through the menu. The one criticism comes from a reviewer who found the rice not fluffy and quite dry. Portions are a steady theme: one casserole is said to feed four, and two diners could not finish a pickled cabbage claypot.

“A Hidden Gem for 铁锅炖 (Tiě Guō Dùn) Lovers in London. I’ve been back to this spot many times, and their chicken casserole stew always hits the mark. The chicken is melt-in-your-mouth and fall-off-the-bone tender, simmered in a rich sauce with just a subtle but satisfying kick of spice. Fluffy potato cubes soak up the flavor without falling apart, and that soy-sauce based sauce is simple, bold, and totally addictive. Let it simmer longer for extra depth, but honestly, just ladle it over steamed rice and it’s pure comfort. My go-to spot for authentic Northeastern iron pot stew(铁锅炖) in London!”

“Such a great find in London. As a claypot lover, I was very happy here. We ordered the Northeastern pickled cabbage claypot and the portion was huge — so much meat that two of us couldn’t finish it. Super comforting and flavourful. I’ve heard the beef triple claypot is also very good, will try next time. Drinks were surprisingly nice too. The one with the little duck on top was cute and refreshing, and the taro drink was really smooth.”

“The portions were way bigger than expected and everything tasted super authentic — the iron pot stewed bone was so tender and flavorful. Cozy atmosphere and perfect for Chinese New Year gatherings, will definitely come back!”

“Absolutely obsessed with 二舅姥爷 on Brick Lane! Their £19.9 Beef Trio Hotpot is huge and insanely good. The broth comes boiling hot and fragrant, with tender beef, jiggly tendon and flavour-packed tripe. Don’t miss the buns cooked right in the pot—they soak up the soup and burst with juice. Sides are great too: super crispy sweet-sour pork, comforting Northeastern rice bowl, and addictive chicken strips. Portions are massive, service is friendly, and the whole experience feels like true Northeastern comfort food. One of the best value meals I’ve had in East London!”
