About Sanbao Chinese Kitchen
Sanbao Chinese Kitchen is a Northern Chinese restaurant at 188 King St in London, within walking distance of Chiswick. Skewers anchor the menu, with roast mutton and beef tendon among them, and fried leek dumplings sit alongside. Karaoke is available, so groups can turn a meal into a night out. The kitchen cooks each order fresh.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often return for the Northern Chinese skewers, with roast mutton and cumin lamb singled out, and beef tendon also praised, alongside fried leek dumplings and pork trotters. Several call the food authentic and the portions generous, and one points to the hotpot and barbecue meats as well. Karaoke nights for groups come up repeatedly as a draw, with one describing the song selection as decent and the evening as extremely fun. Reviews on the wider menu are mixed. One diner found the Szechuan beef average and the rice barely warm, another called the noodles tasteless and the prawn stir-fry thin on prawns, with the chicken and sweetcorn soup and the crab meat soup tasting off. The prawn crackers were described as generous but soaked in oil. Yung Chow fried rice drew a note for hard rice and no carrot or peas, though the sizzling fillet beef was called great. A few mention staff watching a loud film or sports game on a screen, which one said ruined the atmosphere, and one objected to a service charge added to the bill. A walk along King Street toward Chiswick after a meal is one reviewer's favourite closing touch.

“Dreadful.. barely warm rice and very average Szechuan beef.... but, my main problem was that I sat in this place alone after work today, the owner was sat watching a noisy film on his phone on the table behind me, then the rest of the family came out ftom the kitchen chatting away noisily in Chinese, to make it worse, when they stopped yapping (eventually) one of them stood next to my table munching away on prawn crackers with her mouth open which nearly made me throw up ! I asked for my bill and they added a service charge without asking if I wanted to pay it. Bad atmosphere, bad experience, they need to learn customer service and how to create a relaxing atmosphere... it felt like I was an intruder in their family discussion rather than at a restaurant.”

“Sunday dinner, ordered sizzling fillet beef and Yung Chow fried rice. The beef was great, the fried rice wasn't great, it has hard rice and normally I would expect diced carrot and peas in the Yung Chow fried rice, but my rice has only chicken, prawn and ham in them.”

“Food was decent. It came out fairly quickly. Staff were watching a very loud sports game from a tv behind the counter. Ruined the atmosphere.”

“Sanbao Chinese Kitchen is a real gem. The food was amazing, generous portions, perfectly balanced flavours, and plenty of choice whether you want to mix and match or just go for a single dish. It’s the kind of menu where everyone can find something they like. What really stood out was the hospitality. The owners and staff were warm, welcoming, and made the whole experience feel comfortable and enjoyable. A great spot for both a casual meal with friends and something a bit more filling when you’re hungry. Definitely worth a visit.”

“One of the worst Chinese food I have ever tasted in London. Poor quality and tasteless noodles. We ordered prawn stir-fry, there were four prawns in the mix. No other veg apart from onions. We also ordered two soups - chicken and sweetcorn, crab meat soup. Both were not edible. Tasted off and portions were very small. Had a portion of prawn crackers, quite generous portion. They gave us a bag full of but they were soaked in oil. All in all it was a horrible experience. Please avoid at all cost.”
