About Oriental Chef

On High St. in London, Oriental Chef is a Chinese takeaway serving the area Tuesday through Sunday, evenings only, with Mondays closed. The kitchen turns out duck dishes, including Cantonese-style duck and duck with black bean sauce, alongside the usual takeaway range. There is no dine-in seating, and food is ordered for collection or delivery, so it suits those eating off site. Orders are taken on a walk-in basis rather than by reservation. The entrance is step-free and wheelchair-accessible, making it workable for visitors with mobility needs. Delivery extends the menu to nearby streets for anyone who prefers to eat at home rather than wait at the counter.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers are sharply split, with the duck with black bean sauce, Cantonese style pork, and special fried rice drawing praise from those who call the food tasty and reasonably priced, and one longtime customer naming it their only Chinese takeaway now. A prawn and ginger dish also gets singled out as delicious. Set against this is a recurring complaint about declining quality from people who've ordered for years, describing dry, tasteless noodles, oily prawn balls and spring rolls, and duck that was over-deep-fried and not fresh despite costing around £12. Others report skimpy portions, including a Chicken Satay order that arrived with just six chunks of chicken, chips, and no vegetables or sauce, and one diner found a dish overly salty. A couple of reviewers also describe the service and owner as unprofessional.

We used to order from here occasionally over the years, but sadly the quality of the food has gone downhill. I can’t believe I paid £12 for these small, dry pieces of duck. They weren’t fresh, were over-deep-fried, and definitely not Cantonese-style duck.

We really enjoyed all of our dishes yesterday. The cantonese style pork and schezuan stir fried chicken were very tasty and the duck with black bean sauce had the perfect amount of chilli pairing well with a side of pak choi. Definitely …

Really good!, Not ordered in a couple of years but glad I did. The special fried rice was spot on.

How this listing is sourced

Where the data comes from
Name, address, hours, contact details, amenities, ratings and review counts come from the business's publicly available profile data — not from the owner and not from paid submissions.
How it stays current
Every listing is re-checked on a recurring crawl, and anything reported as wrong is corrected at the source rather than patched on the page.
How it is ranked
Placement is never sold. Every business on the page is ordered and compared using the same public signals, so an owner cannot pay to move up.
