About Shepherdess Cafe
Shepherdess Cafe is a small cafe in London at 221 City Rd, pairing Turkish breakfast dishes with a classic cafe menu. The Turkish plates include menemen with sucuk and feta, and a "full Turkish" for anyone who wants the whole spread in one order. The menu runs from breakfast through lunch, with sandwiches and wraps, and omelettes come with chips and salad, including mixed veg and mushroom versions. Homemade beef shin lasagna also sits on the menu for heartier appetites. Tea is part of the line-up, and the grills round out the cooked options.

Customer Review Summary
Turkish breakfast draws the most praise, especially sucuk with egg and menemen with sucuk and feta, which one reviewer ordered twice and found consistently delicious. Another was very happy with the full Turkish, though one diner notes it is not the traditional large spread. Close behind are the omelettes, a mixed veg omelette with fries and a mushroom omelette with chips and salad, praised for big portions and reasonable prices. Reviewers also mention a generous chicken and salad wrap, a homemade beef shin lasagna and a big, delicious mocha, while a beef and onion pie was so so. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly and warm, and the room as welcoming, homey and full of natural light. The recurring complaint is order accuracy. One reviewer had to remind staff two or three times about a forgotten order. Another was told the pie had run out, cancelled it, was served it anyway, and never received one of the other items. Even so, the plentiful salad and generous portion of chips beside the mushroom omelette stand out.

“Popped in on a whim in the hope of a good lunch rather than another cold, below average supermarket sandwich and was not disappointed! A generous chicken/salad wrap and a delicious homemade beef shin lasagna. Decent prices and friendly locals. Very good menu from breakfast to lunch - will definitely go again and try more options including the Turkish specialties.”

“Popped into The Shepherdess recently and was amazed to find it still going strong. I first came here back in 1999 and remember having a great meal then. Fast forward 26 years and I’m pleased to report the food is still excellent, which is more than can be said for some of my joints. The atmosphere was just as welcoming as I remembered and it was nice to revisit a place that has clearly stood the test of time. Not many places can serve you a great meal nearly three decades apart and get it right both times. I’ll try not to leave it another 26 years before my next visit. Bwaaaah.”

“Good Turkish breakfast with delicious sucuk and egg. It was around 11 pound. However, I wouldn’t recommend it if it’s your first time trying a Turkish breakfast, as this isn’t the traditional way it’s usually served. A proper Turkish breakfast normally comes as a large spread with many different items. That said, the food was tasty, the staff were friendly, and the service was fast.”

“Shepherdess has a lovely, homey atmosphere in which you can expect friendly faces and excellent service. I was very happy with the full Turkish that I ordered, while my friends were similarly impressed with the sandwiches that they ordered. Overall, a fantastic experience.”
