Customer Review Summary

Hong Kong milk tea is what reviewers return to most, with several calling it authentic and just like the one they had in Hong Kong, though one wanted it sweeter and another found it only okay. Charsiu rice with egg is close behind, described as filling and a big portion, alongside pork chop rice with scallion oil, crispy outside and tender inside. French toast, satay beef noodle soup and fried squid also draw praise. The criticism is substantial. Several find it expensive, one saying it costs far more than in Hong Kong. Others call the egg firm rather than soft, the bagel hard, and one reviewer found the pork chewy and not juicy and advises against the bagel. Lemon tea and the salty lime 7up were called disappointing. Others mention sold-out baked pork chop rice, a single ordering machine that slows the line, and a charge for takeout boxes. Reviewers also note the old-fashioned cha chaan teng decor, shared tables, and food arriving within minutes.

“Haven’t had HK food or desserts like this before, and it was such a lovely experience!💖 If you visit, definitely try the charsiu rice, milk tea, and French toast they were all absolutely amazing. It can get quite busy, and we saw people queuing to be seated. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. Definitely recommended✨”

“The area itself is very vintage and relaxing; it’s like travelling in time. The service was really fast; we didn’t even have to wait 5 mins for our food - for 5 people. The prices aren’t bad compared to what you get; however, they did charge one pound for each takeout box, which is a bit insane. The food itself was the worst letdown 😭. Since I’ve seen this place go viral, I thought the food would have been better; the pork in all the dishes we had was not good, not juicy like how it should be and a bit chewy. We ordered the char siu with rice, hook pork chop and the bagel. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THE BAGEL, lowkey a waste of money when there are much cheaper and better bagel options literally 3 steps away. Anyways, this isn’t some place I’d go again for the food, but the atmosphere itself is good enough.”

“We have visited hoka which serve traditional hong kong food. The food is ok. I enjoy the pork chop with instant noodles the most. The noodles could be more chewy. The chicken wings is ok, not having the best flavour from the sauce. Lemon tea is below average. The salty lime 7up is bad. Its not salty lime at all, only a little bit of salty flavour. Disappointing. Price is super expensive. Tried once, wouldnt go again.”

“Good value for money if you’re in Shoreditch! I got the charsiu plate with rice and egg and it was very delicious and filling. Tasted really authentic, too. I’m not from Hong Kong but I’ve been many times and it’s hitting it close. The HK style milk tea in a pouch was cute but I would prefer it sweetened. They seem to have many other good items on the menu and would love to come back. Friendly service and old school atmosphere. +++ points they seem to be the only establishment that had airconditioning on that day of the heatwave haha”

“Wanted to visit this cafe for so long and finally got a chance when I was near Brick Lane. Their milk tea is really authentic just like what I had in Hong Kong. The pork chop is crispy on the outside and tender inside, which is great. They provided generous amount of noodles. The decoration and vibe look exactly the same as some old fashioned Hong Kong cha chaan teng.”
