About The Shipwrights Arms

The Shipwrights Arms is a pub in London on Tooley St, right next to London Bridge station and tube. Six cask marque ales are on tap, poured from an island bar, and sport plays on two big screens. The food menu covers classic pub dishes, with burgers and chips among them. The pub opens daily. Match nights draw a crowd, and a drink purchase is required to stay. A doorman staffs the entrance, and the toilets are for customers only.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often point to the location right next to London Bridge station, with one on a train within minutes of leaving and another suggesting a stop before or after the train. The building's exterior is called nice looking and stunning, and outdoor tables are described as shielded from the busy road. Beer divides opinion: one found a pint spot on and another liked the draft selection, while a third found every beer flat and without foam. Burgers and chips with skin-on chips are called good, against nachos and a fish sandwich of fish sticks on unwarmed white bread. Staff are called lovely and great by several, yet one reviewer was shouted at to buy a drink or leave on a busy match night, and another reports a bartender behaved in a racist manner. Toilets recur as a complaint, with mold and unusable bathrooms noted, and one reviewer who had bought several rounds had to show a bank statement to prove being a customer.

“I came here to watch the Argentina vs England match, and I completely understand that it was a very busy night. However, the way I was spoken to by one of the older female staff members with grey hair was extremely disappointing and absolutely unprofessional. I explained politely that I wasn’t thirsty at that moment but that I would buy a drink. Instead of calmly explaining the policy, she shouted at me and spoke in a very aggressive and disrespectful manner, telling me I needed to buy a drink immediately or leave. I told her that we could have a normal conversation without shouting, but the attitude continued. I ended up leaving because the experience was uncomfortable. Busy nights can be stressful, but basic respect and professionalism towards customers should always remain a priority.”

“Attended this pub Wednesday (8/07) . Drinks were fine, the experience, not much. Despite paying for a few rounds, when needed the loo, was rudely interrogated whether I was a customer. How do I prove that I’ve been to the pub if I’ve finished my drink and desperately needed the toilet. Wasn’t allowed to go to toilet, unless I showed evidence - so had to show bank statement. Bit over the top - I’d say. For me I would not return. If you do look to go make sure you have your phone charged.”

“Nice enough pub right next to London Bridge Station. Scary city prices for a pint! Lovely staff.”
  • James Buxton
“Beers were solid, general atmosphere was ok, but the bartender that served me was, knowingly or not, very racist, and it really soured the whole experience. Draft selection was good but that really affected the experience and I would not go back. This is not a slight against the whole staff and I wouldn’t want to paint them all with the same brush, but the individual in question was deeply unpleasant to a patron and we left very quickly after.”
