Quick info
About Founder's Arms
Founder's Arms is a glass-fronted pub at 52 Hopton St in London, on the Thames near The Globe and Borough Market. A large heated patio faces the river, with St Paul's and the city skyline in view, which gives drinkers and diners a place to settle outside when the weather turns cooler. The kitchen runs a pub menu that includes fish and chips with mushy or smashed peas, and a Sunday-style roast built around roast rump of beef, a Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and vegetables. At the bar, Asahi is on draught alongside a wider beer selection, and the drinks list adds cocktails and non-alcoholic options such as an Apple and Elderflower drink. Servers bring food and drinks to the table. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Fish and chips is what reviewers mention most, with several calling it their favorite in London and singling out the smashed or mushy peas alongside it. Close behind are the riverside views of the Thames and St Paul's, which diners return to repeatedly, and the draught beer, including Asahi and a peach beer, plus non-alcoholic drinks like the Apple and Elderflower. Bangers and mash and a meat pie also get praise, and one reviewer describes a Sunday roast with a huge Yorkshire pudding and tender rump that nearly every nearby table seemed to be ordering. Several name their servers as attentive and welcoming, and one says a takeaway meal stayed hot on the trip back. The criticism is specific. Another reviewer found the roast disappointing, with tough meat, watery gravy and a very sweet Yorkshire pudding. A separate one describes being told rudely to leave a terrace table whose reservation sign had long expired, even after food and drinks were ordered, and says that visit overshadowed an excellent first one.

“Nice pub in a good location! Staff were friendly enough however, food was disappointing! Tough meat, strange selection of veg other than the carrots which were also the highlight of the roast. Watery gravy, very sweet Yorkshire pudding?? It tasted like a croissant, minted peas weren’t really working with the beef? Definitely wouldn’t get a roast here again but would potentially try something else ??”

“The meat pie and fish and chips were delicious! I was in the UK and a pub for the first time and Rinate made sure we had a lovely experience. It was fun to eat with a great view of the Thames and London.”

“Been here a few times with Work over the years and it's always been a great Pub with lovely Riverside views of St Paul's and The City but today was the first time I'd eaten here and the Roast was amazing! We saw one being delivered to another table and couldn't resist! The Yorkshire Pudding was huge, with a load of slices of tender Roast Rump and very tasty vegetables and Roast Potatoes. It's about average price for London but great value for the portion size. Service was friendly and unobtrusive. It seems the "Roast effect" was contagious as nearly every table around us had at least one before we left! Great selection of Beers, Wines and alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails too”

“If you want one of the best views in London, go here! With an incredible riverfront location, the skyline of London is stunning and the food is delicious. Of course the fish & chips are great. They are very friendly and welcoming. It's not just any pub in my opinion, and they were very fun while still civil during the World Cup match! Thanks for giving me and my friend such an incredible experience!”

“Absolutely fab pub atmosphere right on the Thames with delicious food. Duke was our server and was very attentive and took great care of us. Big recommend if you're looking for a solid bite around The Globe!!”
