About Nicholson’s pub

Nicholson's pub is a traditional London pub at 174 Queen Victoria St, set beside the river. Seating runs across two levels, with a mezzanine reached by steep stairs and more tables downstairs. A large bar pours cask beer, including Nicholson's pale ale, and live music plays in the pub. The kitchen works through a six-dish menu of classic English pub plates. Fish and chips sits alongside a fish pie with a cheesy mash topping and fish and prawns in the filling, and bangers and mash rounds out the main plates. Walk-in tables are available in the early evening without a reservation.

Customer Review Summary

Fish dishes lead the praise at this pub, with reviewers naming the fish and chips, described as having a light, crispy batter, and the fish pie, whose cheesy mash and filling of fish and prawns get singled out. Close behind are the house burger, the bangers and mash, a fried chicken sandwich called the juiciest one reviewer had eaten, and an award winning pie. Diners also praise the cask beer, with one citing the pale ale as well kept, and the beer selection generally. Several describe the service as friendly and attentive, and the atmosphere as quaint and typical of an English pub, though one finds it quite noisy. The caveats are specific. One reviewer says the cleanliness is a little off even though the food merited four stars, another found the fish pie light on veg, and the drinks are described as costing the London price. One notes the mezzanine is reached by steep stairs, with seating downstairs. Several mention finding a table without a reservation, including one who arrived to a crowd of office workers drinking outside.

Thought we nerded to reserve a table but we we were delighted to find a table to order food, no reservations required. Very nice fish pie, not much veg however.
