Quick info
About The Telford Inn
The Telford Inn is a pub on New Rd in Llangollen, set right beside the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct on the canal, which makes it a starting point for aqueduct walks. Inside, the small room has an open fire, and the bar area has various pub games. The bar serves an ale on Farmer's choice and also stocks other ales, beers, spirits and non-alcoholic drinks. The extensive menu includes the Telford Steak Pie, made with a homemade crust and gravy, alongside a Vegetable Pie. Sandwiches and wraps arrive with crisps and salad. Desserts are homemade, and treacle pudding is among them.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often return for the Telford Steak Pie, described as meaty with delicious gravy, a homemade crust and a great portion, and one reviewer revisited just for it. Close behind are the sandwiches and a Vegetable Pie, along with burgers, chips, garlic mushrooms and a treacle pudding called homemade. Others single out the friendly staff, the open fire, the beer and ale choice, and the setting beside the aqueduct and canal, with a big garden and room for dogs and a baby. One reviewer found the interior strange, like a community centre, and another called the dining room cold with no atmosphere. The sharpest complaint is a visit where the steak pies arrived undercooked, soggy and doughy with thick pastry, the table reserved earlier was occupied, and the first pint came out frothy and flat. The pies were taken off the bill, though the reviewer called the menu pricey for the location. Another diner praised a kitchen that still cooked hot food for the last order before the afternoon break.

“My friend and I revisited this pub because we couldn’t stop thinking about the Telford Steak Pie! Meaty; delicious gravy; homemade crust; and not overseasoned. Great portion. // Our first trip was a long walk from Chirk, where we needed to be revived. Our second trip was for the pie. Satisfying!”

“Vegetarian food here was absolutely delicious. The Vegetable Pie is excellent and highly recommended. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Ours was the last order before their afternoon break, but they still made something delicious and nice hot food. In the rainy/cloudy weather on the day, it was soothing. Burger, chips and Garlic mushrooms were sooo good!”

“The inside of this place was kind of strange. It sort've felt like a community centre. The food looked fantastic. We only had a pudding, which was delicious. Many benches were covered in bird poop because of the birdfeeders placed on a tree right above the benches which was unfortunate.”

“Had a wonderful experience at The Telford Inn during our visit to the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct area. The ambience of this place is absolutely fantastic – a perfect blend of traditional Welsh pub charm, cosy interiors, and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Nestled alongside the canal, it offers a relaxing setting that makes you want to stay much longer than planned. What really stood out was the impressive selection of beverages. Whether you're a fan of ales, beers, spirits, or something non-alcoholic, there is plenty of choice to suit every taste. The bakery and sweet selection was equally tempting, with a variety of freshly prepared treats that paired perfectly with our drinks. The pub has a genuine, friendly vibe that captures everything you would hope for from a great local establishment. The relaxed atmosphere, beautiful surroundings, and attentive staff create the perfect place to unwind after exploring the aqueduct and canal walks. It's the kind of pub that effortlessly combines great hospitality, excellent food and drink options, and a memorable setting. Highly recommended for anyone looking for authentic pub vibes, a great drinks menu, delicious bakery treats, and a wonderful atmosphere in one of the most picturesque parts of Wales. Will definitely be returning!”
