Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often return to the setting over the river, with the terrace and upstairs window tables looking onto the water, kayakers passing and the old waterwheel still visible. Food comes close behind: fish and chips and the burger earn praise, along with a duck leg, a hake starter, chicken liver pâté and a small sticky toffee pudding. Drinkers mention a pint of Wrexham lager or ale, a local cider and a Guinness. Staff are called friendly, polite and attentive, and one party says servers checked twice whether they wanted to move inside from an outdoor table. The pub is consistently described as very busy, with a queue at the bar and a crowded interior, and two reviewers suggest booking. The one detailed complaint comes from a roast beef lunch: small roast potatoes, thin gravy lacking flavour, and a diner who left still hungry. That diner was then told dessert had to be ordered at the bar inside, and wished for a card machine at the table.

“Ah Llangollen on a Sunday, the sun is shining and the countryside is idyllic. The tourists are rafting and canoeing down The River Dee and it’s busy. The town is bustling and after my long stroll in nearby Pontcysyllte, I have an appetite. I’ve visited this pub several times over the years and it’s always popular. You can see why, the location is perfect, the ambience great and staff are friendly and welcoming. I order a Guinness and a roast beef lunch then take a seat outside. Inside is too busy, mums with toddlers and pushchairs, dogs sprawled out. It’s like Krypton Factor trying to navigate around. Approximately fifteen mins later my lunch arrived. Whilst the plate looked appetising and well presented, I felt it wasn’t a big enough portion. The Yorkshire pudding was a great texture. The three roasties were quite small. Half a carrot and a spoonful of cabbage was all you got. The beef was very good, cooked to perfection, succulent and tender. The gravy lacked taste and flavour, was a little too thin. No server asked if I’d like any sauces, or seasonings. Nobody asked if I liked my meal. Maybe they were overwhelmed with diners. I was still hungry after finishing the meal. I asked could I please order a dessert. Then was told I had to go inside and order as previous customers had dined and dashed! This is an easy obstacle, just bring a card machine to the table. I didn’t want to get up, queue at the bar then come back to see my table had been taken. This surely has to be addressed. All servers were teenagers but very courteous and polite. A wonderful pub, just left still hungry.”

“This place is amazing. The food was incredible and the staff are lovely. If the weather's nice, they have a lovely outdoor spot when you can sit and have a drink by the river. Absolutely stunning. We went back for a second time because we loved it so much.”

“What a fantastic lunch experience at The Corn Mill. We were lucky enough to get a cozy upstairs table overlooking the river, where we spent the afternoon watching kayakers glide by while enjoying one of the best meals of our UK trip. I started with a Wrexham Ale and sampled a local cider, both excellent. The hake appetizer was a standout—fresh, delicate, and perfectly cooked with a flavor similar to cod but even more tender. The chicken liver pâté was equally delicious, rich and smooth without being heavy. We finished with a small sticky toffee pudding and a flat white, which was the perfect ending to a leisurely lunch. The combination of wonderful food, attentive service, and beautiful river views made for a memorable experience. If you’re visiting Llangollen, don’t miss The Corn Mill. We would gladly return.”
