About Yum Cha

Yum Cha is a dim sum restaurant on Lark Lane in Liverpool, at 99 Lark Ln, where an original cocktail list inspired by Asian ingredients runs alongside a full service bar. The kitchen cooks dim sum and roast meats, and the menu divides into small plates and large plates, with a Big Plates lunch deal for the daytime. Among the larger dishes are a 4 meat bowl served with fried rice and black bean with tofu. Salt and pepper spare ribs sit on the same menu for those who want something to share. Customer Review Summary

Diners most often single out the big plates, with the black bean dishes, black bean with tofu and black bean rice with beef, drawing repeated praise. Close behind are the tender meats in the four meat bowl, the three meat noodle soup with crispy belly pork, and the salt and pepper spare ribs. Massaman curry, Thai basil and Nutella fried bao also get mentions. Portions are described as huge, and several reviewers say servers helped them choose dishes and describe a lively vibe. Drinks and beer earn a good word too. One takeaway reviewer found the chicken fried rice oily and heavy on onions. Service is the recurring split. One diner describes rude, disorganised staff, side plates and food dropped on the table without a word, and an empty neighbouring table left filthy. A loyal takeaway customer reports curry sauce spilled into the salt and pepper chips, felt accused of wanting free food, and received no apology, though a young employee eventually replaced the chips and sauce.

“WENT HERE FOR LUNCH, HAD THE SPECIAL DEAL - BiG PLATES- All the dishes were full of flavour and delicious. We had Massaman Curry, Black Bean with Tofu and the Thai Basil. Portions were huge! Service was fantastic and friendly. Definitely worth a visit.”

“1 star I am a local and regular customer and have spent a lot of money here over the years, so this experience was extremely disappointing. I carried the takeaway upright and carefully on my car seat. When I got home, the curry sauce lid was completely open. It had spilled into the salt and pepper chips, partly opened their box and covered the outside of the chicken katsu and salt and pepper chicken containers. I tried to save the food by putting it onto plates, but the chips were inedible and had to be thrown away. When I returned with photos, the blonde female staff member looked at me as though I was trying to get free food. She said the chips were sold separately and questioned how the sauce could have entered the box. There was no apology, only an unfriendly and accusatory attitude. A young male employee eventually helped and replaced the chips and sauce, but even then I received no apology. I was taking this meal home for my daughter, who became upset when she saw the mess. Mistakes can happen, but treating a loyal customer like they are dishonest is unacceptable. The food was eventually replaced, but the staff attitude made this a genuinely awful experience.”

“So full! This is one of the best Chinese I've had! 3 meat noodle soup and a side of crispy belly pork. Faultless! Jacob was boss also.”

“Had a fantastic experience at Yum Cha Liverpool. The food was absolutely incredible – every dish was full of flavour and beautifully presented. A special mention to Grace and Liv, who were attentive, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable throughout our visit. They took the time to explain the menu, offer recommendations, and helped us choose dishes that we thoroughly enjoyed. Their excellent service really elevated the whole experience. Great food, great atmosphere, and outstanding staff. I’ll definitely be returning and would highly recommend Yum Cha to anyone visiting Liverpool. To add to the experience they have an outside collection point for delivery drivers! No annoying uber eats drivers leaning on your table or hovering around watching you eat!! Added some photos for inspo but honestly all the food is incredible!! Highlighted the menu for a game of matchy matchy!!”

“The food was good, the staff let it down. The atmosphere was terrible, from the moment we walked into the restaurant, the staff were rude and disorganised. More than one staff member asking us about drinks orders but not politely, and then another staff member just throwing food on the table and not saying anything. Then when we asked for side plates once again no response they were just thrown on the table. The only saving grace was a staff member called Elise, she came in towards the end of our meal and took over service and she was a ray of sunshine. But a birthday meal was very much marred by the attitude of the staff. It also didn’t help that the four staff members all stood in the same spot together and it presented that they were whispering about the customers in the restaurant. It wasn’t a pleasant experience which I as disappointing as the food was lovely. It also took them about half an hour to clean the table next to ours that was empty and filthy from before we were seated!”
