  “Amazing food and great value for money! The jacket potatoes are always fresh, generously filled, and full of flavour. The menu offers a great variety of food from vegan doner to the famous special chips! The staff are friendly, and the service is quick. Definitely one of the best takeaway spots in Leicester—I’ll be coming back again!”

  “Very disappointing - the first time I wanted to try the new hot potato shop at Fosse Park a few days after opening I was told it was a 20 minute wait. I visited yesterday to try again and paid £17 for two jacket potatoes that were unfortunately both overcooked with rock hard skin, quite dry and unappealing. Can easily make better ones at home. Great to see vegan options on the menu, but the cheese wasn’t the best choice (good vegan cheeses do exist) and no vegan butter either which is strange. Vegan donner was the best bit but not worth the extra £3.50. Was hoping this would be a brilliant addition to Fosse Park but don’t think I’d give it another chance.”

  “I ordered the VJ Special Chips on Uber Eats by mistake instead of a jacket potato, and unfortunately this really wasn’t for me. The dish had a mix of flavours that felt quite random and didn’t really work together, and there were elements in it that just seemed a bit unusual. Overall, it tasted quite strange and wasn’t enjoyable. Sadly, I didn’t feel great after eating it and ended up with a stomach ache afterwards, which put me off even more. Overall, not something I’d order again”

  “We attended my cousin’s mehndi night, where Melton Hot Potato Shop had a stall serving hot food. I have to say, both the food and the service were fantastic. They even catered to my personal taste, which made it extra special. The taste took me right back to the 90s when I used to be a regular, working just a few doors away. It’s amazing to see that the taste is still just as good as I remember! Thank you, guys, for such a wonderful experience. I thoroughly enjoyed my chip butty with mild sauce, hot sauce, and an extra sprinkle of chilli powder!”

  “I think with most reviews it's clear this place was a heritage to Belgrave Road. It has a loyal base of customers based and I use to eat here all the time in my teens. Now 40+ visiting Leicester I thought I'd see if it still hit the spot. The shop itself looked the same and felt familiar. The staff were all new, so clearly it's changed management but still friendly and knew the history of the shop, being locals as well. I ordered one thing I always had and what I remember it being famous for, the chip butty special. To be fair, it was really good and brought back the memories of the 90s. It had the soft bap, loads of chips, the relish, cheese and a touch of chilli powder. Yummy 😋 I actually went back 2 days later with the kids and got them to try it. Their first time and they also enjoyed it.”

  “Chips was VERY VERY dry. I spoke to the owner to express what I felt towards what I received, and I did not want a refund, just wanted to pass on my feedback, but he did not acknowledge my comments and mentioned how there has been no complaints regarding their chips, but I was the one who had previously complained over a year ago. There are numerous comments by people on Google who have reviewed and mentioned this exact same thing. Something fundamental is wrong with their chips as you can’t eat it without sauce, comments from my 5 year old neice “it was so dry that I had to use water to push it down my throat” but they are not accepting that there is an issue, which is not great for the growth of any business. I won’t be going back again, but hope they change things around for themselves.”

  “This place is a go-to for anyone visiting Leicester. It’s for everyone! Whether you’re a child, adult, vegan, vegetarian, spicy food addict and even for those who can’t stand any heat! Before our long drive back to London, we thought we would pop in and take food away for the evening for when we got back. Despite us eating the food a few hours later, it still tasted fantastic! The ‘donor meat’ was of course vegan but it tasted sooooo good! The nice lady at the counter promised to pack it all nice so it would still be ‘fresh’ and she did a great job. It did not disappoint. We also ordered the Mexican burger for our journey back. Cannot wait to go back (this time eating it fresh out of the fryer)!”

  “On a recent visit to Leicester and this place was highly recommended by a friend, as well as it's recent fame on a social media platform! We ordered the special chips! The shop itself is quite narrow so at busy times, could be a squeeze. You order at the till directly opposite the entrance and the man was very polite and efficient. We waited about 10 minutes and saw the workers in action preparing our order, as well as others. The special sauce was tangy and worked really well with the chips. The onions and cheese blended in to add a great combination. A great place to explore more for sure! Please note, this is takeaway only! No seating is available.”
