About The Exchange Bar
The Exchange Bar is a bar in Leicester's Culture Quarter, at 50 Rutland St opposite the Curve theatre, so it works as a stop for a drink or some food before a show. Coffee and other hot and soft drinks are served during the day, and in the evening the room runs as a bar with beer, gin, wine and spirits, plus Cornish Orchard cider on tap. Seating at street level sits behind windows, and a basement area hosts private parties and events. Retro furniture fills the space, and the quirky decor includes old knitting patterns on display in the ladies' toilets. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often point to the wine, with a glass of wine as the staple order, alongside beers and spirits. One mentions Cornish Orchards cider on tap and a bottle of Corona Extra. The comfortable seating draws repeated praise, including retro furniture, large windows letting in light, and a basement area some used for a daughter's 21st birthday party. Its spot next to the Curve makes it a place for a coffee or drink before a show, and several describe a quiet but good atmosphere with great music. Details people enjoy include old knitting patterns in the ladies toilets and tourist awards on display. The main complaint comes from one reviewer who booked a private event for March, was told the date was in the diary, then learned it had been double-booked after chasing it themselves. Guests had already been invited and had booked accommodation, and voicemails left for the manager went unanswered.

“This was a relaxed spot to meet friends for drinks, where the main section has large windows all across letting in the light from outside! Counter is presented smoothly and a graphic depicting the outside of the pub's building is creative, seating is comfortable too. Flowers drew on the windows are sweet and please that Cornish Orchard's Cider is served on tap up here in Leicester, had a bottle of Corona Extra too!”

“Beware when booking a private event. I was told in November that my booking for March was in the diary, and I would need to pay the deposit in the new year. After hearing nothing (despite being told I would be contacted), I chased it up myself—only to be told the date had been double-booked and was no longer available. Invites already sent, accommodation booked by guests and very limited options for another venue. Asked to be contacted by the manager and have left voicemails, but have heard nothing. Extremely poor communication and very disappointing handling of a private event booking.”

“A really cool place for an evening drink, with a lively atmosphere and friendly staff. Also it serves as a coffee shop during the day, so also a great place to come then.”
