About The Old Horse
The Old Horse is a pub on London Rd in Leicester, open daily, with what it describes as Leicester's largest beer garden and terrace. The garden has its own bar, a German-inspired street food offering during busy periods and a Jersey whipped ice cream kiosk, and live music plays outside at times. Inside, a separate dining area sits apart from the main bar, so groups and couples can choose between different spaces. The kitchen serves pub snacks, small plates, toasties and pizzas, along with fish and chips and a Sunday roast. S'mores chocolate cheesecake is on the dessert list. The bar pours ales, craft beers and ciders, and Guinness comes from its own separate line of taps.

Customer Review Summary
The complaints are sharper. One reviewer says six first pints of lager in a row were flat, and calls the service poor when busy and the indoor music too loud for conversation. A Sunday lunch diner describes being moved between tables and told conflicting things about eating outside, then getting a roast with frozen peas and sweetcorn in cheese sauce, hard potatoes and one small jug of gravy for three, before a second jug arrived after asking.

“All I can say is WOW🤩 My first time being since the refurb & it's exceeded my expectations! Food was 10/10, so fresh & tasty. Drinks were top notch! Service with a smile! Felt very warm & welcoming from the get go. All the staff were amazing at looking after us and nothing was too much to ask! Hospitality at its finest, really. We came at the best time, atmosphere was perfect for date night. Came for the roast, no words, 10/10. Price wise, worth every penny for what you get! compared to other pubs, this is the one to go to in Leicester! Best pub in Leicester! Lighting was perfect for the time of day, and it was beautiful truly. Definitely will be returning soon!”

“The most important thing about a pub is the beer. The lager is shocking. 6 times in a row my first pint has been flat as a pancake, I give up going back to the bar to replace it. The next most important thing is the service. It’s mostly shocking, particularly when busy. Lots of unenthusiastic staff that cannot recognise a poor pint when they see them. The final thing is the atmosphere, even when busy it’s lacking (mostly due to the large garden in the summer) The live music outside is good, when on. The music inside is poor. Loud speakers which mean conversation is impossible. The new renovation is pleasant but nothing special. I imagine the renovators are laughing all the way to the bank 💰 Food is okay, overpriced as to be expected, along with the beer. Overall 1* don’t expect a lager with a head for any time after 1 minute of serving.”

“First time visit to The Old Horse as it was a convenient place to enjoy a few drinks and a meal before attending a concert at the nearby De Montfort Hall. The selection of Beers, Lagers & Spirits was excellent, albeit service was in a slightly cramped bar area to order when it's busy. The area for dining was separate to the main bar area and a much more relaxed area to enjoy an excellent, and varied menu. We all went for main meals and a couple of us chose a dessert. My Salmon was cooked to perfection, with a crispy skin, and served with a wonderful, tasty lobster bisque sauce with parmentier potatoes and asparagus stems. My partner ordered the Cheeseburger with chips. I also enjoyed the S'mores Chocolate Cheesecake for dessert. Service was good overall, but slightly slow at the start when trying to order due to staff being busy serving other customers their food, so not a major issue. My friends partner ordered a glass of Muscat, instead of a Dessert, but they had run out, so she chose a glass of Port instead and had to remind another member of staff due to the long wait for it. It was certainly a very pleasant 3 hours drinking and eating, and the food was excellent, so a 5% tip was left for that along with the friendly bar staff, chefs and the servers of the food. 9/10 overall and we will return.”

“Went here today for Sunday lunch Shambolic! We kept being moved around from different tables and the staff didn't seem to have a clue!. We were moved twice indoors as staff said tables were reserved. So we went outside and were then told we couldn't eat outside. Then we were told we could. Then we were told there was a table indoors! We had Sunday roast. Really quite the strangest roast I've ever had with frozen peas and sweetcorn in an odd cheese sauce, with leeks and some carrots. Tiny piece of chicken, hard roast potatoes, 1 small jug of gravy for 3 people. When I commented we were given a second jug of gravy. It tasted ok but seemed like the chef wasn't really familiar with what the usual Sunday roast should include. 5 out of 10 and wont be going again as for £20 it was poor value for money.”

“A classic pub — warm, welcoming, and open to all. We serve a carefully curated selection of ales, craft beers, ciders, and, of course, an impeccable pint of Guinness. Dining is available throughout the pub. Our menu features a selection of pub snacks and small plates, alongside classic favourites, toasties, and Neapolitan-inspired pizzas. In addition to our front patio overlooking London Road and Victoria Park, The Old Horse is home to Leicester’s largest beer garden and terrace. Comfortably furnished for lazy summer days, the garden includes its own bar, a German-inspired street food offering during busy periods, and a dedicated Jersey whipped ice cream kiosk.”
