About Cow and Plough
Cow and Plough is a gastropub in Leicester, set in former farm buildings at Stoughton Grange Farm on Gartree Rd. A farm shop and a gin distillery sit next door, with other shops on the same complex. The menu includes woodfired pizzas, and the Sunday roast comes with a vegan and vegetarian wellington, sides and a Yorkshire pudding. Afternoon tea arrives with sweet treats, and a separate dessert is made for dietary needs. Gluten free and allergen options appear on the menu. The bar pours ales, lagers including alcohol free ones, spirits and cocktails, and coffee and other hot drinks are served too. The pub is open Tuesday to Sunday and closed on Mondays. It takes walk-ins without a reservation.

Customer Review Summary
Pizzas come up most often, with reviewers calling the woodfired pizza perfectly cooked and one regular naming them the best in Leicester. Close behind are the Sunday roasts and the vegetarian wellington, described as tomatoey and olive-y, while a vegan roast earned praise and one diner said the chips were the best he had tasted. Others single out a juicy, tender burger, a duck dish with spiced plum sauce where the meat fell off the bone, and an afternoon tea with a separate dessert made for a guest with gestational diabetes. Reviewers describe friendly staff, generous portions, and gluten free and allergen options. The farm shop and a gin distillery on site also get mentions. Complaints are scattered. One diner received a Yorkshire pudding so burnt it was hard to cut, one found the food slightly slow, and a vegan guest found the booking team unhelpful, offering only spring rolls. A reviewer at the bank holiday country festival described a new entry charge, food running out by early evening and only chicken burgers and chips on offer, though the bands were praised.

“It’s our new favourite place for a nice dinner! The atmosphere was amazing, the tables and toilets were clean and most importantly great service! We had a cheeseburger and fires, and a ceaser salad and both were incredible!!! The food was slightly slow but it wasn’t bad. It’s a lovely spot and it and surrounding shops look like a street from a movie. There’s free parking. We came on a Saturday afternoon in the summer holidays with no reservations and went straight in. It wasn’t ideal we had to go and order ourselfs but it was ok.”

“Went to their event on the bank holiday weekend the country festival was very surprised this year we needed pay £10 entry when last year it was free. By 6/7pm they had also ran out of food and a lot of people were quite disappointed with this meaning we had to eat elsewhere also this year the only food options were chicken burgers and chips much preferred last year with the BBQ. Must say the bands were very good and we really enjoyed listening to them it’s just a shame about everything else”

“Absolutely loved the vegetarian wellington with the sides, however, the Yorkshire pudding was so burnt I could barely cut into it. I was quite dismayed that it was sent out this way! I'd have expected staff to notice this upon plating. However, it could've been a one off to be fair, and the meal overall was delicious and the service was fab. The wellington had a lovely delicate Mediterranean flavour, it was tomatoey and olive-y. Lovely place with some hilarious vintage decor.”

“A brilliant pub since its takeover. Always get fantastic quality meals and there is a variety (but not too much of a variety) to choose from. I love visiting the farm shop next door and looking round the other shops on the complex but the pub itself is the best bit by far. Meals are piping hot, of fantastic quality and are so tasty. I would recommend The Cow and Plough to anyone (including young families and people with dogs)”

“A great British 'foodie' pub in former farm buildings at Stoughton Grange Farm. Foraged, locally loved and sourced produce, British brewers and artisans.”
