About R/Bar

R/Bar is a pre bar at 76 Granby St in Leicester, set up as a first stop before a night out elsewhere. A dress code applies at the door, and sports wear is not allowed, so guests who plan to come in should dress up. The door team wears SIA badges, checks ID, and works a controlled entry. The venue is usually at capacity by 11pm, and guests who arrive without a friend may be turned away, since entry is reported as not open to solo visitors. Stairs lead down to the toilets.

Customer Review Summary

Music is the main draw, with one reviewer praising a Bank Holiday day party featuring a number of DJs and another calling the New Year's Eve music really good. Close behind, an LGBTQ reviewer describes a safe space where the queer football and board games were fun, and another enjoyed the lager and ambience. The door is the most frequent complaint. Several describe being refused entry with no reason given, including a group told it was full while friends were let in, four friends with the right IDs turned away, and a solo visitor refused because entry reportedly requires a friend. Inside, one reviewer waited at the bar while a server wrote chalkboard signs, another found glasses left everywhere, and one slipped on liquid on the stairs to the toilets, bruising a leg and smashing a phone screen. The day party reviewer still closes on the door team being helpful, pointing the way to a cash machine after the card machine broke.

“They have a policy of not allowing you to come alone but you have to have a friend with you to enter. As someone who was on a solo night out, I was refused entry. I wouldn’t bother returning.”

“These 2 bouncers are shocking. They took my friends real ID off her and were saying she couldn't prove it was her when we watched underage girls walk in. They were saying for £20 they would give us the id back but wouldn't id the underage girls that were entering as they were their friends girlfriends”

“On the 11th of March 2026, I came to R-Bar and when I was dancing, a guy came up behind me and sexually assaulted me from behind. He tried to apologise but I went to the cloakroom desk and told them. We went around the bar to find him but I couldn't see him until we went outside again where the guy came up to me and apologised. I told the bouncer who simply went up to the guy and spoke to him. I was told the guy wouldn't bother me again but he wasn't removed or reported to the police as he stayed with his group at the venue. I was later asked by a member of staff if I was okay but I told her what happened, but again nothing happened. I reported it to the police who checked and saw that there was no report from the bar despite the bouncer being told, a member of staff and one of the managers who was behind the cloakroom bar. I even remember a guy who was wearing a grey jumper who was a lot older say he was no longer on shift as if to say its not his problem and he doesn't care. The bouncer was talking to this guy after we did a lap around the bar to find the guy. This happened around 11:35 to 11:50pm. For your safety, please be aware of this bar.”

“Clear Racism. Allowed all my white friends inside and denied entry to me and another brown friend stating it’s full now. My friends literally turned back and stated that we were with them still the bouncer denied entry to us. Didn’t expect this kind of racism in Leicester and that too in 2025. Shame on the management who are allowing such bouncers to be racist at the entrance.”
