Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often return for the rotisserie chicken, which several call the hero of the new menu and which comes with a choice of sauces. Close behind are the smoked Caesar, the rarebit flatbread, crispy pig tails, wings and halloumi burgers. Many say the new menu has lifted the food, and long-time regulars describe the place as welcoming, with friendly bar staff and a good beer selection. The roof terrace, the events room and the 80s nights on the top floor also draw praise, along with a monthly free cocktail for mailing list members. Several mention it is dog and baby friendly. The complaints are specific. One reviewer says a jug of sangria sold for three people held less than a shot of Hennessy and a glass of mulled wine, and tasted like lemonade, leaving them feeling scammed. Another, at a christening full of children, found no plastic bottled soft drinks, and a child dropped and smashed a glass. One reviewer notes no further events were listed at present.

“Paid £22.50 for a jug of "sangria" that was supposed to be for 3 people but contained less than a single shot of hennesy and a single glass worth of mulled wine. The jug was then filled with mostly ice and a bit of lemonade. The resulting drink tasted just like lemonade. I feel scammed”

“A wonderful place. The Woods is everything a neighbourhood bar should be. Warm, welcoming and run by people who clearly care. The new menu is a triumph. The rotisserie chicken is outrageously good, and the pig tails are worth ordering for the novelty alone—crispy and addictive. No gimmicks, no deafening music, no manufactured atmosphere. Just brilliant food, great drinks and friendly staff. In an age where so many places mistake volume for personality, The Woods understands something far older and far wiser: people don't return because their ears rang for three days or they got a Guinness for £1. They return because they felt welcome and have good taste. Five stars. A magnificent establishment and one of Chapel Allerton's finest sanctuaries. Long may it thrive.”

“I honestly couldn’t have picked a better place to celebrate my 30th birthday! I booked the events room and the whole team at The Woods went above and beyond to make the night so special. A huge thank you to Alisa, who was amazing from start to finish. She was so helpful, friendly and accommodating, and made sure everything ran smoothly. The food was absolutely incredible, the bar service was quick all night, and every member of staff was so welcoming and happy to help. The sound system and lighting were also brilliant and created the perfect atmosphere. Thank you to everyone at The Woods for making it such a memorable night. I’d recommend it to anyone looking for a great venue for a celebration!”

“A fantastic experience trying out the new menu with great vibes at The Woods. We were very excited to try out the food and it did not disappoint. We love a well-thought menu that knows what it is (instead of trying to make everything!). Their hero dish is the rotisserie chicken which you can have with different types of sauces. All the different sides, flatbreads (Rarebit is MEGA) pair extremely well. Great selection of beers, attentive staff, super dog and baby friendly (we went at 6sh). 10/10 Thanks again!!! Luis”
