About Derwent Walker Cocktail Bar and Restaurant
Derwent Walker Cocktail Bar and Restaurant is a Keswick restaurant on 19 Lake Rd, serving breakfast and brunch by day and cocktails with small plates in the evening. Bottomless Brunch sits on the daytime menu, so the morning can run to cocktails as well as food. The bar makes espresso martinis in several flavours, including a choc-orange one served in a chocolate-rimmed glass. The restaurant is upstairs, with tables spaced so neighbouring parties are not on top of each other, and dogs are welcome. Tapas are made for sharing, with several plates ordered per table, and the peri peri chicken skewers are one of the small plates. Gluten free and dairy free options are available, and the team checks allergy questions with the chef.

Customer Review Summary
Small plates anchor the praise, with diners ordering several between two and calling the portions plenty. The halloumi sliders with chilli jam, loaded potato puffs, peri peri chicken skewers, and venison meatballs come up by name as delicious and full of flavour. Cocktails sit close behind, especially the espresso martini, served in chocolate rimmed glasses or as a choc-orange version, and a Heat Wave cocktail one reviewer calls a favourite ever. Larger dishes such as the sea bass and a Tuscan chicken pasta also earn mentions. Several diners with gluten free, dairy free, or pescatarian needs say options were plentiful and staff checked allergy questions with the chef. The criticisms are specific: one breakfast reviewer found the avocado and halloumi undercooked, with untoasted bread and no one checking back, and another notes a single toilet leaves people queuing in the dining area. One couple was greeted warmly when they returned the next night just for a drink.

“One of the worst breakfasts I’ve had in the Lake District. I had the avocado and halloumi and it was a sloppy undercooked mess. The bread didn’t even look like it had been toasted at all, the halloumi was basically raw with no char marks and the avocado was very runny. No one checked back to ask if our food was okay so we couldn’t even give them our feedback. If you see 2 customers have both left a full plate of food you should at least ask if the food was okay. I do not recommend this place to anyone.”

“Plenty of options to choose from for both gluten free (celiac disease) and pescatarian, couldn't fault the food - full of flavour and good portion sizes. Staff really helpful and friendly and double checked any allergy related queries with the chef. Great location, only down side is there is only one toilet, meaning people were queuing in the dining area.”

“What a fantastic find - the food and drinks were exceptional. In particular we loved the varying flavours of Espresso Martini (and the chocolate rimmed glasses they came in!) - felt really quite unique. The small plates were excellent and the sea bass too - plus very friendly attentive service and being recognised with a hugely friendly welcome when we popped back in just for a drink the following night. This is a gem in the heart of Keswick and I would highly recommend a visit if you are in town.”
