About Twisted Willow
Twisted Willow is a Cypriot restaurant and cafe in Keswick, at Moot Hall. The menu is built around a sharing meze platter of dips served with pitta bread, with a spiced filo lamb pie and chicken soup also on offer. Many of the cakes and several of the main meals are gluten free, so guests who avoid gluten have choices across both the cake display and the mains. Coffee and cake is an easy order here. Dogs are welcome, and payment is taken when you order. A pet shop is upstairs.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the coffee and cake, with one celiac diner delighted by the gluten free cakes, and several call the staff friendly. The breakfast wrap and spiced filo lamb pie also earn compliments. Complaints centre on slow food, servers unsure of the menu, soggy dacos, a wrong tea, and extra pitta for a sharing meze costing another card tap.

“Casting around Keswick for a light lunch is more difficult than we first thought - lots of pubs (happily full) and fewer cafés (limited seating). Finding the Twisted Willow was therefore a relief. We were quickly seated and, knowing our Cypriot food, were keen to order some firm favourites. Waitress wasn't too aufait with the menu, and the specials board was missing prices; it all seemed a little confused? Our lunch was, unfortunately, a hit and miss affair. The dacos, which should have been crunchy and smothered in tomatoes, herbs and olive oil was more like a panzanella with some feta and sliced olives on top. The soggy bread (not rusks) was a disappointment. The spiced filo lamb pie, however, was gorgeous. Unctuous with just the right amount of spice and fat, with a thin layer of creamed leek in the base. The salad that came with it was a small ramekin of a disappointing, very wet attempt at tabbouleh (? I think that was what they were aiming at?) Now, the tea: what can go wrong, in a 'Cypriot' cafe, when ordering a Cyprus mountain tea? I love this herbal tea, made with various bits of the sideritis plant, it's refreshing, cleansing, and brings back memories of little cafés in the Troodos mountains. So, when a pot of spicy cinnamon and clove tea arrived I was not particularly impressed. Less so when I was told that it was the right thing. Whether this was through ignorance or apathy, I don't know; it would have been much simpler to have just told us when ordering that they were out of stock. Getting the tea order wrong might seem a minor thing, but I think their handling of it demonstrates where they're going wrong generally. A little overpriced (had to pay when ordering), we wouldn't come here again for a meal. Maybe for some of the gorgeous looking cakes, though!”

“Good food and friendly staff . Food definitely takes a bit long to arrive but it’s worth the wait though.”

“We came today, the staff didnt know what they were doing. The waitress didnt know what was in the chicken soup and another waiter didnt know if you got bread with the soup.!!! Staff knowing the menu is a basic in the service industry!! We ordered 2 chicken soups only to be told 15 mins later that there was only one but agreed to another kind of soup, we then waited 20 minutes for both soups to come with no apology when it did arrive. The chicken soup was unseasoned and inedible and our tea very weak. (We had to ask for another teabag) In general it felt like nobody knew what was going on or even cared to be honest. Very disappointing!”

“Coffee was good, decided to opt for the sharing meze at 29.95 for the 2 of us, when it came out, it looked amazing, a large platter of dips and loveliness but... there was a tiny bowl with about 5 or 6 slivers of pitta bread, if it was 1 whole one, then it was tiny, seeing as the whole idea was dips etc, I asked the server if it would be possible to have a bit more pitta bread, he said 'sure' went away and came back with the card machine and said that would be another 2.95.. i was too surprised to question it so just tapped my card, then spent the rest of the meal feeling peeved that I had paid what amount to an additional 10% on another 6 slivers of pitta bread, before we left, I told the server that whilst the food was lovely, I was very disappointed at the additional £3 for something that should have been provided with a sharing platter, instead of apologising and maybe refunding it, he said he'd let them know.. it is getting dearer and dearer to eat out which, due to the difficult current climate, we expect but a little thing like that grates, i could maybe understand if I'd ordered say just hummus with pitta but this was the dearest thing on the menu so surely 2 small pittas should be the norm... not 1 and an extra charge”
