Quick info
About The White House
The White House is a restaurant and cocktail bar at 50 Union St in Inverness, close to the Victorian Market. The bar works from a menu with numerous cocktails, and the bartender will make a custom cocktail based on one from the list, so guests can ask for a variation on a drink they already like. In the kitchen, the risotto comes with the option to add chicken or salmon, and a venison main sits on the menu. A chef's choice three-course meal is also available, and the kitchen offers gluten-free options, including a gluten-free sticky toffee pudding. The restaurant is open daily. The gin martini is made with a local gin and served stirred.

Customer Review Summary
Risotto draws the most praise, with one diner so taken by the flavor they wanted to lick the plate clean, and another noting the kitchen swapped chicken for salmon without a surcharge. Close behind is the venison, called the best one reviewer has tasted, served in a chef's choice three course meal with a beef appetizer and pistachio crème brûlée. Others name the fish cake starter, sticky ginger tofu, tempered chicken in a spicy sauce, and a gluten free sticky toffee pudding. Cocktails earn steady mentions, including a gin martini stirred after the bartender helped choose a local gin. The atmosphere is described as sophisticated yet lively and relaxed, and two reviewers contrast it with louder places. Servers are repeatedly called attentive. The one dish complaint is the French onion pie, so heavy on the mash that one diner finished only half. Another table found the baked salmon sold out. One bartender built a second cocktail based on the first drink a guest chose.

“Wife and I wanted a casual meal on Friday night in Inverness and were walking in the downtown area when we came across the White House. Menu displayed interesting options and our first impression of the location was very good. Friday nights in most "tourist" destinations generally produce restaurants with loud music that is bothersome and prevents conversation with your dining partner. The atmosphere was far more sophisticated but still lively/chill at the same time. On to the food. My wife's first choice of baked salmon was unfortunately sold out (a good sign for future visits), the replacement sticky ginger tofu was tasty and well presented. My choice of soup of the day with a small bread side was well made. Service was attentive. I was impressed with the restaurant and its offering but I was more impressed by our server Connor. He represented the restaurant in a professional, caring and mature manner that belied his position in the restaurant. I actually thought he was in management until he told me otherwise at the end of our evening. To management - you chose this employee well. He represented your brand at the highest standards that left me with a very positive impression of your business. Good employees are difficult to find and then keep. I think your business has found a young person that could advance quickly if given the right opportunities. Over to you management to do so. Respectfully Ron.”

“A beautiful restaurant and bar by the Victorian Market area. Thanks Google reviewers for sending me in the right direction with your comments and pics. Just came in for a Gin Martini and the bartender helped me select my local gin and served it stirred...perfect. The tempered chicken was served with a spicy sauce and also red peppers...so good on a cool night. Got a special viewing of the Youth Pipe Band after dinner.”

“It’s a must visit place! The food was incredibly rich in taste with a creative touch. The cocktails were amazing and the bartender created a second cocktail based on the first one I chose from the menu. Perfect spot for great dinner and cocktails!”

“The White House was the first meal we had after arriving in Inverness, and it ended up being a wonderful surprise. We hadn't made dinner reservations for our first night and simply stumbled across the restaurant, deciding to give it a try. We're so glad we did! Both of our entrées were delicious. I ordered a risotto, and while the menu only offered the option to add chicken, the staff was more than happy to substitute salmon instead. Not only was the dish exceptional, but they also didn't charge an additional surcharge—they simply charged the same price as adding the chicken, which was a thoughtful touch. We also enjoyed a couple of fun cocktails, and the atmosphere made for a great first evening in Inverness. Every member of the staff was kind, accommodating, and had a wonderful sense of humor. We'd especially like to recognize our server, Ben, who made the evening especially memorable with his friendly service. We would happily return the next time we're in Inverness!”

“The White House is an absolute must-visit. The first thing you notice is the atmosphere—it’s incredibly welcoming and has a vibrant yet relaxed energy. The service was truly fabulous. The staff are clearly passionate about what they do; they were consistently helpful, attentive, and quick to offer great recommendations without being overbearing. Would definitely recommend 😁.”
