About La Tortilla
La Tortilla is a Spanish restaurant at 99 Castle St in Inverness, built around tapas and paella. Paella comes in several versions, including a seasonal paella, a Madrid paella and vegetarian options, so a table with different tastes can order from the same section of the menu. Some dishes carry a local Scottish twist alongside the traditional Spanish plates. Tapas such as patatas bravas and gambas pil pil are made for sharing, and sourdough with olive oil and balsamic is served too. Spanish tiles decorate the dining room. The drinks list covers beer, wine and sherry. Booking is walk-in, and the kitchen stops serving in the evening.

Reviewers describe the flavours as diverse, the menu as short and fresh, and the dishes as fun to share alongside sangria, beer, a sherry or a barraquito coffee. Some find the atmosphere authentic and reminiscent of Spain. Service splits opinion. Reservation experiences also differ. One reviewer says reservations are required, with card details taken against no-shows, while others walked in and found a table or bar seat. One family, told the kitchen was closing, was chased down the street by a staff member and seated.

“Ordered the Madrid paella and it was delicious! I eat a lot of vegetarian dishes and noticed that there were a few paella options for that as well. Didn’t have a reservation, but there was room at the bar. Service was great.”

“My family went here last night around 8:50 in hope that we could get something before the kitchen closed, but fully understanding we may be turned away. At first they did say the kitchen was closing soon and they wouldn't be able to accommodate the five of us. As we were walking away towards the high street, the woman came running after us and said they would be able to take us, and that the kitchen wouldn't be closing until 9:30. We were so grateful - we had only just gotten in from a very long day, missing our reservation at another nearby restaurant. The options were varied so everyone found something they liked, the flavours were diverse, and the service was kind and accommodating. I bought a t-shirt as well, since the design included the name of the city on it. This was a great stroke of luck for us, and we would definitely recommend to anyone looking for some good food!”

“Wow. How exciting is it to discover a gem, and just in a street by the Castle with little fanfare and no knowledge. Beautifully cooked and tasty tapas from a relatively short menu, which allows them to be fresh and original and - well, just amazing!”

“Excellent tapas restaurant serving traditional tapas and paella, including one or two with a local twist. Most plates in the £6-£9 range, with paella for two at £20-£25. Good portion sizes, I'd suggest two each of you're not very hungry, but three or four with patatas bravas for the table if you are. Thanks for having a go at a barraquito coffee, it was lovely. Happy to recommend it if you're after something different and want to support a local business. Gracias, mui bien!”

“We didn’t have a reservation, but since it was a quiet lunchtime, we were seated right away with no issues. The food was good, and the portion sizes were more generous than we expected. We ordered a selection of tapas and a paella, both of which we enjoyed. Service was average. Our server was neither friendly nor rude but lacked the warmth you’d typically expect in this kind of restaurant.”
