About Spice Hut Barkingside High Street
Spice Hut Barkingside High Street serves naga-spiced wings and doner as its signature items from a restaurant on High Street in Barkingside, Ilford. Grilled dishes are finished on a griddle and mixed with onions and sauces, and because the lamb doner comes off the same griddle where the naga is mixed, it carries that heat too. Around the fried chicken and wings, the kitchen also cooks curries, biryani and other South Asian dishes, and a lamb doner with chips and a naan is a recurring order. The counter works on a walk-in basis rather than reservations, and the doors open daily. Food can be eaten in, collected, or ordered through Uber Eats for eating off site, with delivery-app tickets worked ahead of eat-in and collection orders. High chairs give families with young children somewhere to sit down together.

Customer Review Summary
Doner is the most frequently praised item, with reviewers singling out the lamb doner and chips, the mixed doner and chicken wrap, and the chicken burger alongside it. Many describe the portions and prices as good value, and a few mention a free naan or friendly staff. Opinions on the wings split: one reviewer calls the naga wings the signature and very hot, while another says wings aren't the strongest point. Several note orders that were missing an item, and in two accounts the shop made it right with extra food on the next visit. A longer, mixed review calls the fried chicken average, the grilled chicken low on flavour, and the grills messy under heavy sauce, while the curries get praise there. Another reviewer says the spice carries into everything because the naga is mixed on the shared griddle. One reviewer says dine-in and takeaway customers come second to delivery orders. One reviewer reports concerns about hygiene in how the chicken is prepared, and another describes watery curries and yogurt that tasted off. One reviewer got a few extra wings after the forgotten ones.

“SERVICE IS TERRIBLE. i understand it’s a bengali-owned business, but staff on the tills should be able to understand and speak english. i’m a regular and i’ve been disrespected multiple times at this branch. the food is really inconsistent — sometimes it’s great, other times it’s dry and not nice at all. it genuinely feels like it just depends on the day. recently i bought a family bundle and was told i could only have 4 chilli sauce tubs. when i asked for one more, the worker who tried to give it to me got told off, yet customers can use as much sauce as they want from the tables. it makes no sense. it honestly feels like they pick and choose when it comes to sauces. one minute there are limits, the next there aren’t — there’s no consistency and it just comes across unfair. the other day i came in to sit and eat and two school boys were using bbq sauce, nothing excessive at all, just normal use. they got told off for “overusing” it, which felt really unnecessary. spice hut, what is going on? this branch used to be one of the best and it’s gone downhill badly.”

“Food quality has gone down the drain, specially the hygiene side of preparation of the food. As you can see they do not clean the chicken and I doubt they wash the chicken or any other food items before preparing. I will report to trading standards. It is utterly disgusting. Service is good as they have friendly stuff. Quality of food being served needs to improve ASAP!”
