About Tayyabs Express
Tikka rolls anchor the menu at Tayyabs Express, a halal Indian restaurant on High St in Ilford, where the rolls come in chicken, mutton, paneer and vegetable versions. Lamb chops and sheekh kebab come off the grill alongside them, and the wider kitchen runs to karahi dishes in lamb and chicken, biryani including a Sunday special chicken version, and naan in peshwari, garlic, butter and tandoori forms. Poppadoms arrive with a selection of chutneys and dipping sauces, and Kheer or Rasmalai closes a meal. Seating is walk-in and handled by the team as tables free up rather than booked ahead, and the dining room fills on weekday and Sunday evenings, so a wait is common. Sofa-style seating lines the room, with the tables nearest the entrance catching a draught from the door. The kitchen opens daily and the full list runs to 86 dishes.

Customer Review Summary
Complaints are mixed and recur. One diner reports lamb chops arriving wrapped in foil, a watery, flavourless chicken karahi, and butter naan instead of garlic naan, plus no complimentary hot cloths or mint chocolate at the bill. Another says takeaway food was visibly burnt on one occasion. Others cite poor service from two staff, long waits caused by seating management rather than a full room, uncomfortable sofa seats, and a door that doesn't close properly, letting a cold breeze cool the food. A few call it pricey.

“Tayyabs Express in Ilford was a huge disappointment. The service was very poor, and the two staff members serving seemed like they didn’t want to be there. The food was only average, especially considering the prices and how much better the …”

“I’ve been a regular customer at the tayyabs in whitechapel so I was expecting the same service and food quality. They brought out the lamb chops in foil and I had to ask the staff to remove it which I’ve never experienced before. When the chicken karahi was presented it was watery and flavourless I had ordered garlic naan and they gave me butter naan which I asked to be replaced. When the bill came there wasn’t any hot cloths or mint chocolate which is a tayyabs complimentary. I wouldn’t visit here in the future.”

“Absolutely blown away by this place 🔥 From the moment we walked in, the vibes were perfect—beautiful ambience, warm service, and the sound of smooth Punjabi and Bollywood music setting the mood just right 🎶 Now the food… honestly, OUTSTANDING. Every dish was bursting with rich, authentic flavours. You can tell real care and passion goes into every plate—perfectly spiced, beautifully presented, and seriously satisfying. This isn’t just a meal, it’s a full experience. Great music, amazing atmosphere, and food that leaves you wanting more. Definitely coming back again! 👌”
