About Axe and Compass
Axe and Compass is a pub on High St in Huntingdon, with an old-world look and several seating areas indoors. The kitchen serves lunch and home made food, with a chicken and mushroom pie and a beef burger on the menu. A weekly Steak Night and a pizza night give the food side set evenings of their own, and a weekly quiz night covers entertainment. The bar pours a selection of beers, along with real ales and wines. A beer garden sits against the backdrop of the village church spire. Dogs are welcome, and the bar keeps treats for them.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the food, with the beef burger singled out as one diner would order it again and again, and the chicken and mushroom pie called great. Close behind are the Thursday steak night, which one regular loves, and the pizza night and lunches that same reviewer found equally good. Home made dishes and a good menu range come up too. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly and welcoming, and one reviewer liked the outdoor barman's recommendations. The old pub character, the indoor and outdoor seating and the village setting round out the praise, along with a good selection of beers. One lunch visitor was far less impressed, describing a dark and dreary interior, a fish finger that was grey on the inside, poor bread, and a bill that felt high for three drinks and two sandwiches with chips. Others mention that dogs get treats at the bar and that staff happily welcomed a birthday cake.

“Wonderful old pub that does nice looking food, but we didn't try. Outside space at the front and back. Dog friendly with treats at the bar. Friendly young barman. Worth a visit if you're in the area.”

“Emma did our grazing board for our wedding day and there are honestly no words to describe how amazing it was! 🤍 The layout and presentation was absolutely fantastic and the food was incredible. Every little detail was so beautifully thought out and you could really see how much time care and effort Emma puts into what she does. Our guests couldn’t stop talking about it and it was such a beautiful addition to our wedding day. Thank you so much Emma for helping make our day even more special. We couldn’t recommend you enough! 🤍✨”

“Excellent village pub and restaurant. Good selection on the menu with lovely welcoming staff. Various seating areas plus seats outside to relax in the sun in this splendid village. We had meals in here two nights running during our canoe trip on the Ouse. Overall such a great establishment and well worth dropping into.”

“This is an AWESOME pub! I loved the vibe and the old school look and feel. Service staff were INCREDIBLY friendly and helpful. I particularly liked how the outdoor / outside barman was making recommendations. The food was GOOD! I liked it A LOT! I will tell you the beef burger was Excellent! The patty was genuinely good and Id order that id order it 5x over. A few things id have changed about the other dishes but nothing major. its a good meal at a good price. Also if you are a fan of pie... The chicken and mushroom pie was GREAT!! All in all a fantastic experience, highly recommend.”

We have a beautiful beer garden with our Al fresco bar and dining area, large patio & children's play area, all set against the backdrop of the village church spire. We have a Steak Night every Thursday which offers excellent value for money and delicious food at the same time. For entertainment we hold a weekly quiz night on Tuesdays, we show the more popular sports events on TV and feature occasional live music.”
